Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPS table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
MAKANAH is yet to run a moderate race on this course, with some sterling efforts including a fourth in this race in 2019 and a close fifth 12 months ago (both on good) when he didn’t have much room when trying for a run. 5lb lower this time and his reliability here makes him of interest.
Three of the last seven Acomb winners had raced only once and LOOSE CANNON made a winning debut over C&D (good to soft) last month, albeit by the skin of his teeth in what wasn’t the strongest race. Tongue tied this time, his trainer’s runners are always respected at this meeting but this one needs to find a hefty chunk of improvement and, unlike all his rivals, he lacks further Group-race entries.
PADDINGTON is a phenomenal 3yo colt whose toughness, tenacity and remarkable progress has rightly earned him comparisons with “Iron Horse” Giant’s Causeway who won this race in 2000 for the same stable following a similar campaign. Admittedly had a relatively straightforward task in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood most recently but that enhanced his excellent career record (form figures 51111111) and brought up a Group 1 four-timer following wins in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes and 1m2f Eclipse. Thrives on his racing and is proving an unstoppable force.
A good fifth on debut here and perhaps soft ground wasn’t to his liking next time, ENDLESS POWER bounced back with good win at Chelmsford (1m), doing well to go past wayward leader. Subsequent gelding operation could squeeze out more for this switch to handicaps and the trainer is red hot.
