Mick Fitz reckons Ambushed (14:25) can hit the places at least in the valuable two-year-old sales race.

13:50 – Relief Rally

Day two of the Ebor Festical and there’s lots to look forward to witht the girls taking centre stage.

I was working at Newbury when Relief Rally won. She did no more than she had to do, and it’s hard to argue that she is unlucky to be unbeaten this season having gone down narrowly at Royal Ascot when flying home in second. Irish challenger Cherry Blossom is hard to get a handle on but anything coming from Ballydoyle has to be respected.

14:25 – Ambushed (each-way)

Danny Tudhope is the retained jockey of Steve Parkin of Clipper Logistics and he has ridden a few big winners for him. Archie Watson does very well with his two-year-olds and Ballymount Boy that Ambushed beat last time ran in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes. If he goes well there on Wednesday, Ambushed will shorten in the market and looks value for an each-way play.

15:00 – Cruyff Turn (each-way)

Those of us of a certain vintage will remember the great footballer Johan Cruyff and his famous ‘turn’ and the horse named after that has run some good races at York. This is a very competitive 1m contest and you can make a case for lots in this field. Cruyff Turn is handicapped to run a big race and he gets the nod at what should be a nice each-way price.

15:35 – Free Wind

Frankie Dettori will ride at the Ebor meeting for the last time and he would get a massive cheer if he were to win on Free Wind. She is proven at the track as she won the Group 2 10f Middleton Stakes in May and then stepped up in grade and despite starting favourite for the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, she disappointed behind Pyledriver. She can be forgiven a the poor run in the Lillie Langtry Stakes as the ground was heavy that day, and she got bogged down in it. Irish raider Savethelastdance (who won the Cheshire and Irish Oaks and in between finished runner-up in the Epsom Oaks) is the market leader, but looks like she needs softer ground to bring out the best in her.

16:10 – Moracana

Irish trainer Sheila Lavery is not afraid to have a go at a nice prize and her Moracana ran a hell of a race at Royal Ascot in a very competitive Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. She flew home to finish fifth, closing all the way and this looks an ideal test with the ground staying dry.
