The time of Cogitate’s victory 33 days ago wasn’t the quickest of the two divisions run on that day but he was a very dominant victor with the promise of much more to come. He’s a big, rangy, powerful individual and the Charles Hills team have won this race recently with Dutch Connection and Phoenix Of Spain. They know what’s required.

15:00 – Continuous

Continuous ran pretty well at York earlier on in the campaign over a slightly shorter trip but he was put in his place last time by King Of Steel at Royal Ascot. Gregory, the likely favourite, is dropping back down in distance and may well give Continuous something to aim at inside the final quarter mile.

15:35 – Paddington

Paddington has been remarkable this season and this four-runner contest is going to be fascinating from a tactics point of view. Paddington has proven himself as totally flexible with regards to tactics and is by no means one dimensional. He also gets a whopping 7 lb weight-for-age allowance off his main rival, Mostahdaf.

16:10 – Grappa Nonino

Grappa Nonino has taken a while to look like the finished article over both disciplines of hurdles and the Flat. The expert moulding from his handler Dermot Weld saw him win pretty convincingly last time, back home at the Curragh. He now steps up in trip to two miles which looks guaranteed to suit. This big galloper will love the York venue.
