Valentino Dancer has bounced back to form of late and, following a creditable runner-up effort over hurdles, he offered plenty to work with when second on his chasing debut at Southwell last month. Valentino Dancer was no match for a thriving rival in Al Zaraqaan but he jumped soundly in the main and showed enough to suggest that he’s up to winning a similar event. He can run of the same mark here, which is 2 lb lower than his last winning hurdles mark, and he can register a first success over fences.
It took Saddlers Quest a long time to get off the mark but she scored in convincing fashion at Uttoxeter last month, quickening two and three-quarter lengths clear after making smooth headway, and it’s worth noting that the runner-up pulled 12 lengths clear of the third. A 6 lb higher mark might not be enough to stop her following up if she’s in similar form, particularly with Joe Anderson offsetting much of that rise with his 5 lb claim.
Wonderful Eagle showed a fairly useful level of ability on the Flat in Germany, winning on three occasions, including on his latest start in November. He will be a big player if translating that sort of ability over hurdles and starts out for Philip Hobbs and Johnson White with the yard among the winners. If Wonderful Eagle fails to take to hurdling the one to benefit could be The Geordie Ginge who showed fair form when only narrowly denied at Stratford last month.
Bagheera Ginge failed to complete on his first couple of starts over fences but has done better the last twice, finishing placed on both starts at Worcester. He split a couple of subsequent winners in a strong race for the grade on his penultimate start and was a creditable third last time when he shaped second best. It’s still early days for him over fences so he could still have a bit more to offer in this sphere, with cheekpieces applied for the first time in a bid to eke out a bit extra.
Clearance goes well around here and he bagged a third victory over course and distance when scoring with something to spare three weeks ago. Clearance looked back at the top of his game, registering a cosy length-and-three-quarter success after being produced to lead at the last, and he remains on a fair mark after a 3 lb rise in the weights.
Rubys Reward resumed winning ways with a comfortable victory at Worcester last month and ran to a similar level when runner-up off a 7 lb higher mark at the same venue a few weeks ago. She is operating at the top of her game at present and looks likely to give another good account after edging up 1 lb for her latest effort.
