Tan Rapido hails from a good family – his dam is a half-sister to Group 1-winning sprinters Deacon Blues and The Tin Man – and he offered encouragement when runner-up on debut at Newcastle last month, finding only a rival with past experience too strong. Tan Rapido built on that promise to get off the mark at Windsor on his second start and that form sets a good standard for his rivals to aim at, while he also remains open to further improvement.
14:55 Evening Story
Evening Story showed steady progress as a juvenile without managing to get her head in front and she made a satisfactory return to action when third at Redcar last week. She is entitled to be a bit sharper with that outing under her belt and this looks like a good opportunity to get off the mark.
15:25 Gale Force Maya
Gale Force Maya enjoyed a productive campaign last season, winning on five occasions, though she wasn’t at her best when runner-up in this listed event 12 months ago. She has a good overall record at Pontefract, though, having won twice and been runner-up three times from five starts here and her form is the best on offer. She’s been below her best this season but offered more encouragement when a close-up third at York last time and she stands out as the one to beat.
16:00 Two Auld Pals
Two Auld Pals has been in good form this summer and registered a third win of the campaign when successful at Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, seeing things out well in the testing conditions. That was over a mile and five furlongs but Two Auld Pals will have no problem with this much longer trip as he won over a similar distance at Carlisle in June, and he still looks well treated following a 4 lb rise in the weights for his latest Hamilton success.

16:30 Clan Chieftain
Clan Chieftain has been disappointing on both starts since winning at Chepstow in June but it’s still early days for this lightly-raced three-year-old who could be worth another chance. He was off the bridle a long way out and always behind on his handicap debut at Goodwood last time, but the ground was very testing on that occasion so he could be suited by the return to a sounder surface, while he also drops in grade here.
17:00 El Montejean
El Montejean had been campaigned over further but looked suited by the switch to sprinting when runner-up over this course and distance last month, deserving credit for being up with the strong pace throughout. He still appeals as being on a competitive mark despite going up 3 lb in the weights and he can gain a deserved success here.
