15:45 – MIN MAGNA

Indication Spirit has won his races with a wee bit in hand and it’s therefore hard to know how much more there is to come. What we do know though is that he needs a career best here in a better race than he’s been contesting. That doesn’t mean he can’t win, but the value merchants will play against him off a new mark of 71 and Ed Dunlop’s charge Min Magna is preferred. The bay gelding just outstayed Kandoo up the hill at Bath last time out when opening his account and an opening mark of 72 looks viable.

16:15 – ARECIBO

If Danny Muscat can get him to bounce from the stalls here, it is possible that the old boy Arecibo will make all the running off a rating of 93 (rated 10lbs higher in May of this year).  The veteran hasn’t been seen to best effect on his last two starts, both at Ascot, and this track is a much better fit for the eight-year-old. Take the selection to have too much all round speed at the weights for both the well handicapped Ancient Times (worth a saver) and Call Me Ginger. The last named is very interesting should he get a clear run through the pack in the final furlong and a half.

16:45 – ROYAL SUPREMECY

For the very fact that the only filly in the race, Skellet, is entered in a Group Two later in the season and is trained by the outstanding and in-form Ralph Beckett, she has to be watched in the market place. It can only be a guess before knowing how the money speaks but Dark Tornado and Royal Supremacy are probably better bred for this opening test. The last named will obviously stay further in time and is merely a suggestion rather than a tip in this newcomers contest.

17:15 – WHITCOMBE ROCKSTAR

Out the back in a slowly run race at Ffos Las, Wisper didn’t have a snowballs chance of making up the ground in the closing stages and an end to end gallop will see him in a much better light here. He is worthy of consideration behind the likes of the bang in form Derry Lad and Whitcombe Rockstar. One of five last time out winners in the field, he caused a massive shock last time out over the course and distance, but perhaps it was the fact that he settled much better off a hot pace that helped him and he has more to offer again from the foot of the weights.

17:45 – ORBAAN

With three top end players led by Austrian Theory in the field, this should be a strongly run contest and that could drag the former Golden Mile winner into the race at the close. He is still higher than for that impressive Goodwood win, ran well in the race again earlier in the month, but as long as the Esher track dries out then I suspect David O’Meara’s charge Orbaan can swamp his rivals close home as long as he doesn’t see too much daylight. The prominent racing Acotango and three-year-old Metal Merchant should both make their presence felt.

18:15 – ZARGA

Zarga showed a cracking attitude to reel in Decoration at Windsor last time out after her rival got first run on her and had the advantage of the stands’ side rail. A 6lbs penalty looks harsh in the circumstances, but this will only be the seventh start of her career and the daughter of Camelot may improve for the stiffer track and stronger gallop here. Of her rivals, Reach is surely better than she showed last time out, while Mlle Chanel maybe better served by being held onto a bit longer rather than running free off the top end as per her last two runs at Salisbury and here.

18:45 – RYTHMIC INTENT

This looks a really good opening for Rhythmic Intent to bounce back to winning form after looking a shade unlucky at Yarmouth last time out. The son of Lope de Vega is probably best when getting a lead, but can be his own worst enemy by running too freely in the initial stages of a contest. Traila showed that his turn was just around the corner when a fair second to King Eagle at Newmarket, while I wouldn’t put anyone off Secret Shadow who wasn’t best served by a stop start gallop last time out at Newbury. Any rain that falls would suit the daughter of Camelot who looks a thorough stayer when allowed to let herself down on the ground.
