13:50 Newbury – Arrest
There has been a little bit of rain around, so the ground will be okay for his exaggerated, galloping action. Arrest is on a recovery mission, but should appreciate the drop into calmer waters and stepping up in distance to just shy of 1m 6f should help. If he’s going to make up into a top-class stayer in the future, he needs to win this.
14:05 Newmarket – Strike (Each-Way)
He has to be a solid each-way option in this going for back-to-back successes, even allowing for the fact that he is 3lbs higher than when winning last year. Strike is drawn up in the high numbers (16), with a bit of pace drawn around him. He will be hitting the line strongly as he stays this trip and a bit further very well.
14:25 Newbury – Harry Brown
Has been going through the grades very smoothly on a synthetic surface, climbing up the ratings. Harry Brown does not appear to have levelled off just yet and has met trouble in running in his last couple of runs, when it was getting towards the business end. Granted a clearer passage, he has to go well.
14:40 Ripon – Strong Johnson
He was an expensive purchase at the horses-in-training sale at £70,000 and as of yet he’s not paid back a chunk of that fee. Strong Johnson finds himself 21lbs lower in the handicap. He’s coming in here off the back of an eye-catching run at York, suggesting his time is near. Danny Tudhope is a great jockey booking.

15:00 Newbury – Accidental Agent (Each-Way)
Okay, so we know plenty about Accidental Agent and he’s never going to get back up to winning a Group One race again. He has been hitting the crossbar of late and will surely find the net shortly. All he needs is a strong pace to run at and with the likes of Lethal Nymph and Isla Kai likely to push on, we could see a return to the winner’s circle.
15:15 Ripon – Gulliver (Each-Way)
The old boy of the party Gulliver ran a cracker here a couple of races back is drawn beside the pace angle again. Don’t expect him to be played until very late and the rider Mark Winn takes off another valuable 3lbs. I don’t need to remind you about the trainer David O’Meara successes in these heritage handicaps.
15:35 Newbury – Mostabshir
He looked fairly decent when winning at York, although he was allowed a very soft time up on the front end that day. This 7f trip could be the ideal distance for Mostabshir especially with the blinkers on for the first time. William Buick takes over in the saddle with the three-year-olds 5lb weight for age allowance, he’s not got a huge amount to find with the red-hot favourite Chindit. He could prove very tough to pass if he gets to the lead.
