17:10 North View

This can go to Peter Chapple-Hyam’s well-bred colt NORTH VIEW, who sets a good standard on his promising debut third at Ascot three weeks ago and is open to progress on this step up in trip. Watcha Matey has reached the frame in all of his five runs and he’s feared most, although Berkshire Nugget looks the part on paper and he’s an interesting newcomer. Flag Of St George enters the reckoning on his peak effort but he has a mixed record so far and comes with risks attached at this new trip.

17:45 Porfin (NAP)

There are several in-form contenders in the line-up but the most striking one is PORFIN (NAP), who made all over course and distance (C&D) two weeks ago before a good second under a penalty at Yarmouth last Thursday. He’s well treated off 3lb lower on this drop back in trip and could be hard to catch. Second choice is Epic Express, who finished well to go close behind the selection here last time. Ray Vonn looks interesting switched to sprinting on his handicap debut, while the other one on the shortlist is Cashew.

18:20 Oddyssey

Allegorical made a promising start at Newbury and is open to progress on this step up in trip, while Kingdom Of Time cost 800,000gns as a yearling and he’s an interesting newcomer for a yard that won this last year. However, it is hard to get away from ODDYSSEY, who went close in the Chesham at Royal Ascot and backed that up with a creditable third in a Group 2 here last month. He sets a high standard back in calmer waters and this step up to 1m looks a good move on pedigree.

18:55 Southwold

An open race in which the vote to SOUTHWOLD, who has won two of his six starts and resumed his progress with a bold bid off this mark at Sandown last week. Bird Of Play has done well under Elle-May Croot since May and she’s feared most ahead Where’s Freddy, who found improvement with his 7f win here last time. The consistent Coloane could make a serious impact on her drop back in trip, while others who could be dangerous are Split Elevens and Mercurius Power.

19:30 Squeezebox

Several have possibilities but the vote goes to Mick Appleby’s SQUEEZEBOX, who has won two of his last three starts and hit a clear personal when upped to 1m2f here last time. Last week’s Bath winner Jack Sparowe is feared most on his step up to this trip, although I Still Have Faith has had a productive time this summer and he still has scope for further progress. Others who could be in the mix are Forest Demon and Wintercrack.

20:05 Sudden Ambush

Preference is for Andrew Balding’s three year old SUDDEN AMBUSH, who made it three wins from his last six starts when scoring at Windsor last month. That was a tight finish in a small field but he’s only 1lb higher here and is open to more progress. Most of the others come with risks attached but Arqoob had a good spell over hurdles earlier this year and could be the main danger on his return to the Flat.
