14:00 – Rare Jewel
RARE JEWEL has a speedy pedigree and was thrown in at the deep end making her debut in a six-furlong listed event at Newmarket last month. She ultimately found that too stiff of a task first time out, but she travelled powerfully up until around halfway and she has the potential to take a big step forward now. The drop to five furlongs will be no bad move and this looks a much easier opportunity. Easy Pontefract winner Princess Alex and Go Big Or Go Home, a half sister to the top-class Battaash, can emerge as the chief threats.
14:30 – Zaphea
ZAPHEA has a wider draw than ideal to contend with over five furlongs at this track, but it isn’t as bad as it used to be, and she produced her best effort yet when runner-up at Bath last week. The handicapper has eased her in the weights subsequently and she could be the answer in an open handicap with her rider also taking off a handy 7 lb. Charlie Mason looks the type to benefit from headgear, so he’s feared equipped with a first-time visor, with Macarone and Carnaby Princess others fancied to be thereabouts.
15:00 – Brandaisy
This isn’t a strong nursery and BRANDAISY left her previous form behind when runner-up on her handicap debut at Haydock 11 days ago. She was easy enough to back in the market, still displaying signs of greenness but she was well suited by the move up to seven furlongs, staying on the finish never nearer than at the finish behind an extremely well-backed, progressive rival. Brandaisy is now 2 lb lower in the weights and remains a horse to be positive about at this level. Bellestarr, who also took a step forward for the switch to this company last time, is feared most, ahead of Doubletalk, who is better than she was able to show last time.
15:30 – King of Tonga
KING OF TONGA was a four-time winner last season and he has left the impression he is close to getting his head back in front of late, finding just one rival too strong on his last two starts. He was unable to get past one who bounced back to form and was seem to maximum effect from the front at Pontefract last week, but he remains 5 lb below his last winning mark, so is weighted to go one place better. Soul Seeker has also been in good heart and isn’t taken lightly, while Texas Man resumed winning ways last time and remains well treated on old form.

16:00 – Cold Henry
COLD HENRY was a dual winner over a similar trip to this at Catterick under this rider last season and he has been very consistent so far this year. He was a short-priced favourite back at Catterick last month but wasn’t seen to best effect, done no favours by getting caught behind the weakening outsider in the back straight while the emphasis was more on speed than probably ideal. However, he is clearly still on a competitive mark, and seems sure to launch another bold bid. Trooper Bisdee, representing the stable who took this race 12 months ago, had soft ground as an excuse last time and he’s a big threat.
16:30 – Temper Trap
TEMPER TRAP thrived around this time last year and he arrives in a similar vein of form, readily completing a quick-fire hat-trick at Ripon last week. He is ahead of his mark now just 1 lb higher in the weights and will be hard to stop in his pursuit of a four-timer. The sole three-year-old in the line-up, Eagle Eyed Tom, and dual course winner Leading Company look the likeliest dangers.
