Kyle McHugh rode his first winner when BIG BABY BULL beat Is That Love at Limerick in June and can notch another success now. Spanish Tenor, second in a competitive Galway festival handicap, went one better at Gowran yesterday. Sunday Sovereign is the more appealing of the McAuley pair.
A low draw may help DROMANTINE in her bid to reverse Dundalk form with On Our Radar who has an outside berth. Hat-trick seeker Chestnutter and the in-form Lady Arwen also have to contend with a high draw. Toriangel comes from a central stall and could go well.
It should not take much improvement from an initial outing over C&D to see CHIEF LITTLE ROCK come home in front this time. Bad Desire was second to a Ballydoyle-trained colt at Galway and may take the same place here ahead of the Ger Lyons-trained newcomer Soldier’s Empire.
Seven of the nine runners are grouped in a narrow rating band between 101 and 105, making this a hard race to call. Younger horses have done well in this event in recent seasons, and THORNBROOK (nap) can maintain that trend following a good run at Ascot. We may not have seen the best of Alfred Munnings who will possibly benefit from the addition of cheekpieces. Villanova Queen may prove best of the older runners.
A tendency to hang to the left counted against UP AND UNDER when he failed to land the odds at Galway. His excellent Group-race course form implies that he can make amends now. In theory, he has a significant amount in hand over The First And Last, Hutton Glen and Walsingham.
This is wide open. It could be worth taking a chance on FEATURE THIS. She is a dual AW winner who ran a fine race over C&D on comeback before finding the ground too soft last time. Her yard is in form too. Final Check was all out to win at Killarney last time and has a 4lb rise to cope with. One Boss, Dracho Pulchrac, Rockbury Lad and Lasting Peace are considered.
Rampage will be popular to supplement his C&D win last month after the second horse won at Galway but he is 7lb higher today. A flyer is taken on HIGHLAND KING, who went close over C&D a year ago and was unsuited by soft ground the last twice. Mads Black Eights won a division of this last year and can go well again even from a tough draw. Givemefive is a player but also has a tough draw. Sioux Princess, Velvet And Vine and Dutch Glory are others to consider.
No Thanks will be popular after his Ballinrobe hurdle win three days ago but preference is for BARNACULLIA. He ran a cracker over fences at Galway after not getting the clearest of trips on the Flat there on his previous start. Abraham ran well enough over C&D last time and can be involved.
