Everybody will focus on Chinese Knot, who is going for the three timer after putting up a very polished display at Chepstow. However, Loaded Gun looked really good when winning at Chester and quite clearly got stuck in the mud at Goodwood last time. He’s better than that and he is drawn in stall one against the rail.
Conquistador is looking like a pretty decent purchase from the horses in training sale. He ran an absolute blinder at the Royal meeting when a close third and if he hadn’t stumbled last time in the early stages, he would’ve gone close again at Newmarket.
Crimson Angel is one of a few of the younger sprinters testing the water against the older team. She wasn’t fully extended to win her last two starts on the all-weather tracks at Lingfield and Southwell – and she now switches onto turf for the first time. She received a pretty good talk up from her trainer Clive Cox after her last success, suggesting that a mark of 82 is not her ceiling.
Man Of Eden was all dressed up with nowhere to go last time at Goodwood and it wasn’t until very late in the day that he saw daylight and did incredibly well to snatch a close up third from nowhere. If granted a smooth passage, he can outstay his team-mate Zoukster, who has questions to answer over the distance.
Jack Channon’s horses were in decent form at the Glorious Goodwood meeting but Metal Merchant’s run didn’t go to plan. He didn’t get any luck that day and he goes again just two weeks later on a bit of a recovery mission. He is well drawn in stall two and has a top rider in Kieran Shoemark on board.
Stay Well has been contesting some very hot races including the Duke of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot. That run was a complete throw out as there was a ridiculously fast pace. He tried two miles recently but he’s now returned to what could prove his ideal distance. He is carrying top weight because he is the class horse of the field.
Tiffany looked very progressive winning at Wolverhampton, Windsor and Newcastle in her last three starts. She was well on top at Newcastle suggesting that she has a good chunk more to offer. She has a feather weight on her back and luckily the stable rider Luke Morris is able to get down to ride her at just 8st 1lb.
