Slight preference is for FALLING FOR YOU after her promising debut at Windsor but Romanova should find this vastly easier than the Listed race she contested first time out. Ralph Beckett’s Sky Blaze is perhaps the most likely of the newcomers who need a close look.
15:10 – Welleef
He’s no standout on the bare form but WELLEEF started an eyecatchingly short price on his recent debut at Leicester and won with authority, leaving a very positive impression, so he is taken to repeat the dose at the chief expense again of Crown Dreams, despite the latter being 7lb better off at the weights. Full Regalia (particularly on the first of her two runs for her former stable) and Dreamrocker have shown significant ability.
15:40 – Eye Of The Water
The vote goes to an in-form candidate in EYE OF THE WATER, in a field which lacks solid options. Boom Boom Pow experienced an upturn in June when she was last in action, so she is second on the list, ahead of last year’s Salisbury 1m winner Millicent and Anglo Saxson.
16:10 – Pogo
This looks tight on 2023 form but POGO had better last season and gave a positive signal last time out, so he could be on his way back. There is a niggling concern over him at 1m as opposed to 7f, given last year’s heroics over the shorter trip, but he is still preferred to the 2020 Sovereign winner Regal Reality, followed by the last-time-out York Listed winner Chichester and the relatively unexposed 3yo Embesto. Market confidence behind Mighty Ulysses in the first-time cheekpieces would make it look even more competitive.

16:40 – Queen Regent
The Gosden-trained handicap debutante QUEEN REGENT (nap) has not raced on turf or at this sort of trip but her latest performance over 9.4f was brimful of promise. There are sticking points with all her rivals. A solid run from Flash Bardot is likely but Flight Of Angels is feared most, if she settles reasonably. Truthful started second favourite in a Listed race last time but that support was badly misplaced.
17:10 – Loughville
The promising late gains made by LOUGHVILLE over 1m2f at Sandown on her reappearance earn her the vote. Monty Bay’s last performance over 1m suggested he can provide serious opposition, though, and there are also three fascinating handicap newcomers to toy with, including Marie Laveau on her reappearance.
