14:30 – Barneys Angel

BARNEY’S ANGEL finished down the field on his latest outing at Beverley, but that was a rare poor effort and his overall profile suggests he’s the type to bounce back quickly. He ran a solid race when finishing fourth over this course and distance on his previous start, sticking to his task well to be beaten less than three lengths. He is 3 lb lower in the weights today and appeals as perhaps the most solid proposition in a race where the majority have questions to answer.

15:00 – Crystal Of Time

CRYSTAL OF TIME makes plenty of appeal on pedigree as a daughter of Dark Angel and a half-sister to three winners, including the very smart middle-distance performer, Nations Pride. She is in top hands with Charlie Appleby, who has an impressive 30% strike rate with his two-year-old runners at Nottingham since the start of the 2018 season. In a maiden where those with previous experience don’t set the bar too high, Crystal of Time looks very much one to follow on debut.

15:30 – King Lear

KING LEAR is bred in the purple (by Galileo and out of the dual Group 1 winner Amazing Maria) and his debut run at Newbury was full of promise, keeping on well once the penny dropped to pass the post only three lengths behind the winner. That form is the best on offer in this line-up and there should be plenty more to come from him with the experience under his belt. A useful prospect, King Lear can get off the mark at the second attempt on his way to better things.

16:00 – Golden Shot

GOLDEN SHOT took another step forward to make it four wins from his last six starts at Ffos last week, winning by the sort of margin very rarely seen on the Flat. He clearly relished the emphasis on stamina in testing conditions as he steadily drew clear from three furlongs out, ultimately winning by 27 lengths. He remains unexposed over staying trips and a 5 lb penalty is unlikely to be enough to stop him in his follow-up bid if it doesn’t come too soon after just seven days off.

16:30 – Northern Spirit

NORTHERN SPIRIT was an impressive winner at this course last month and he ran at least as well in defeat when filling the runner-up spot in a deeper race at Yarmouth next time. He was beaten just three quarters of a length on the last occasion and that is proving strong form as the pair he split have both won since. His record is one of steady progression and he’s fancied to improve again to defy a 1 lb rise and bring up his fourth win of the year.

17:05 – Buddys Beauty

BUDDY’S BEAUTY has proved a revelation since making the switch to handicaps with back-to-back wins, first opening her account over this course and distance and then defying a 5 lb higher mark to follow up at Leicester. She found a big chunk of improvement on the last occasion, making all to win by four and a half lengths in dominant fashion. This will be tougher following a further 10 lb hike in the weights, but she is clearly on a sharp upward curve and remains one to be interested in now bidding for the hat-trick after seven weeks off.
