Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPs table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
The lightly raced LA YAKEL so nearly made a winning reappearance four weeks ago, when bidding to make it two wins from as many starts at Ascot. He can step up again to deny in-form opponents Scampi and Max Mayhem, who are preferred in that order. Reserve Wootton’Sun has also been on the upgrade and last year’s winner Pride Of Priory returns.
Confidence has to be dented somewhat by some lesser efforts but Al Aasy looked good again last time and has even better form in his back catalogue, which would set a clear standard in this field. On the last two seasons’ evidence, though, it is far more open and slight preference is for the 3yo filly MIDNIGHTMILE who is the one with potential. King Of Conquest should be very seriously involved and Savvy Victory showed what he can do last time.
If BREEGE doesn’t find this race coming too soon after last week’s fine second in the Oak Tree at Goodwood she looks the one to beat. Purplepay (second choice) isn’t that easy to fancy on this year’s efforts but she might have needed the run at Pontefract last month and she’ll have a big say if back close to her 2022 level. The same yard’s Orchid Bloom could be capable of making her presence felt in this higher grade judged on the ease of last month’s Newbury handicap success, while this is a rather belated reappearance for Lose Yourself but she came a long way in a short time at two and it will be very interesting to see what the betting makes of her with the Ralph Beckett yard in such good form.
A cracker of a 3yo handicap. Quinault has carried all before him this year and his latest Newmarket win has been well advertised, so he has to be high on the list in his bid for a seven-timer. Batal Dubai (second choice) did well to come from off the pace to score at Newcastle six weeks ago and he’s capable of better but lurking at the bottom of the weights is the well-handicapped DARKTROOPER. Ed Walker’s 3yo is upped in class today but he’s 2-2 since returning to 6f and created a positive impression when ploughing through the Haydock mud on Sunday. Quicker ground will be no issue and he looks thrown in under a 3lb penalty.
