13.35 – Ascot – Bond Chairman (each-way)
A mammoth day on ITV Racing Saturday gets under way here with the Shergar Cup card kicked off with a handicap over 5f. Not many of these are well handicapped. I’ll take BOND CHAIRMAN each-way for the magic man Joao Moreira and Bryan Smart. My hope was behind Intrinsic Bond at this track last time but had every chance and is a few pounds better off at the weights.
14:10 – Ascot – Berkshire Rocco (each-way)
A handicap over 2m. BERKSHIRE ROCCO might be just the type of horse Matthew Chadwick gets a good tune from. My selections is down in the weights after a disappointing few runs and will need to be smuggled into the race for Andrew Balding. On his best form he has a definite each-way chance.
14:25 – Haydock – Fantastic Fox
ITV also go to Haydock Saturday for this handicap over 1m. It’s hard to know if FANTASTIC FOX will ever bounce back to form but he’s a big price here and well handicapped for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni. A mark of 89 is perfect, and not so long ago he was on 100. A drop in trip might help and his effort at Epsom when favourite two runs ago was not a complete shambles.
14:45 – Ascot – Scampi
A handicap over 1m4f. La Yakel has everything in his favour with Joao Moreira on top but I’ll risk the slightly quirky SCAMPI once again in this column. My hope was slowly away at York last time over a shorter trip and never got involved without being disgraced. However, other than that he’s been in pretty good form this term and this is his distance. Saffie Osborne is a decent jockey booking for a horse Hayley Turner won on earlier this term.
15:00 – Haydock – King Of Conquest
Up in class here for the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster over an extended 1m2f. Al Easy is the best horse in this but he’s not one to trust so while he’s good enough to pick this lot off I’ll go with KING OF CONQUEST for Charlie Appleby and James Doyle. The Lope de Vega offspring notched up a sequence of wins before finishing sixth behind Royal Champion in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot.
He was never placed to challenge that day but stayed on well from off the pace and this event gives him a better chance to show what he can do.
15:20 – Ascot – The Wizard Of Eye
A handicap over a mile. Some of these are going to struggle if there is no pace. THE WIZARD OF EYE is not a horse I like much and connections keep on insisting on holding him up. However, he might just go back to front-running here and this race is gagging for one to go on. His effort for Stan Moore at Goodwood last time wasn’t bad and he’s been dropped 2lb. It helps having Tom Marquand on top.

15:40 – Newmarket – Soprano
ITV pop to Newmarket for this Group 3 Sweet Solera for juveniles over 7f. This looks open. I’ll stick with SOPRANO who was third in the Albany at Royal Ascot before missing Newmarket and finishing third in a Listed event at Sandown. That was on very soft ground and this better surface will help. Kieran Shoemark is on top for George Boughey.
15:55 – Ascot – Golden Move
A handicap over a mile and a half. Some lightly raced improvers here. GOLDEN MOVE is up 5lb for a success at Doncaster last time but goes with juice in the ground and might be capable of more for Richard Fahey and Olivier Peslier. Stamina is no issue and he won really well at Donny suggesting more to come.
16:30 – Ascot – Quinault
A handicap over 6f. QUINAULT keeps winning and while he’s up to 97 here – started his six-race winning run off 59 – he could well be up to the task. The Stuart Williams-trained star was terrific at Newmarket last time and the runner-up was a Listed winner in France next time. Luke Morris is the ideal partner. Out, away and gone.
16:40 – Curragh – Porta Fortuna
Finally for ITV Saturday is a Group 1 special with the Phoenix Stakes for two-year-olds over 6f. PORTA FORTUNA did well to land the Albany at Royal Ascot and she might be good enough to take care of the boys here for Donnacha O’Brien and Oisin Murphy. The daughter of Caravaggio goes in any ground and is clearly very talented.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
