14:10 – GREY CUBAN
There are several newcomers on show, but GREY CUBAN shaped with plenty of promise on his debut at Newmarket when finishing runner-up to a filly who showed much improved form. He fared best of the newcomers on that occasion, though he ran green under pressure when starting to mount his challenge. That experience won’t be lost on him and he looks a sure-fire improver. Cheeky Blimey stepped up on debut when a close second at the same course and rates the main threatahead of Angel of England, who only just failed at Thirsk.
14:40 – SASSY BELLE
SASSY BELLE didn’t finish out of the first three on her first four starts last season, and didn’t need to improve when opening her account fitted with first-time blinkers in a restricted maiden at Leicester at the fifth attempt, but did so with plenty in hand. She has run to a similar level back in handicaps this season, hitting the frame on her last two starts, and not doing a lot wrong at Windsor last time. Cheekpieces now replace blinkers and the booking of Oisin Murphy is a positive move, so she seems sure to launch another bold bid. Belle Fourche has few miles on the clock and is considered the main danger.
15:10 – DUNES KING
DUNES KING was already gelded but is from a high-class family and he looked a good prospect when overcoming inexperience and odds of 25/1 to make a winning debut at Windsor last month. He also overcame a filly who had already got some good form in the book and has won since, so the form has a solid look to it, and Dunes King is open to any amount on improvement now, so he looks a good bet to defy a penalty before having his sights raised even further. Shadow of War, who wasn’t ideally placed on his return at Newmarket, also arrives with plenty of potential and is feared most.

15:40 – WARREN HILL
WARREN HILL showed ability on her debut last season but didn’t progress from that, though she has shown steady improvement in handicaps this year, running her best race to date when runner-up on her first start over a mile and a quarter over this course and distance last month. She relished the extra emphasis on stamina that day, beaten only narrowly by one well ahead of his mark who followed up next time. Warren Hill is now just 1 lb higher in the weights and can deservedly open her account. Moonlit Cloud was in a competitive race last time, so she’s expected to bounce back, while Mountain Lake looks the pick of the handicap debutantes.
16:10 – MASCANI
MASCANI was well suited by a significant step up in trip to a mile and a quarter when opening his account on handicap debut at Beverley last month, leaving his previous form behind and relishing the extra emphasis on stamina. Admittedly, that wasn’t a deep race, but the manner in which he won suggests he was quite a bit ahead of his mark, so a subsequent 3 lb rise in the weights looks generous, and he looks a horse to keep on the right side over middle distances.
16:45 – MY HONEY B
MY HONEY B is going the right way and was well on top at the finish when completing a double at Beverley last time, one of the first off the bridle under more patient riding tactics, but picking up well in the straight, so she’s fancied to complete a hat-trick if they go a sound pace. Recent Ayr winner Time To Rumble is an obvious danger and four-time course winner Nine Elms can’t be ruled out, either.
