Titian doesn’t have a particularly good wins-t0-runs ratio. However, he is in form at the moment posting some solid efforts and unlike a good few in the line-up, he will appreciate the softer underfoot conditions. The young conditioanl rider Jonny Peate takes off a valuable 3lb. Keep an eye on Power Of Darkness at a huge each-way price as he has dropped massively in the handicap.
Richard Fahy’s runner ran no sort of race last time at Doncaster on good to firm ground but that is the polar opposite of what he’ll face now. The drop to handicap company may help to light the spark for Alghalib who was a £160,000 purchase and may yet prove to have potential.
After a very slow start at Yarmouth 14 days ago, Ramiro made up ground in the quickest part of the contest and then flattened out late on. With a clean break and a more patient ride this time, he’s going to be a major player now. A look back at his previous form would suggest that he is still very well treated of a mark of 73.
The three-year-old is in the form of his life lately winning his last two starts of marks of 66 and 68 respectively and has been nudged up another 4lb to a rating of 72. He is very hard for the assessor to get to grips with as he reluishes hold-up tactics in his races. I Still Have Faith can continue climb the ladder and rack up the three timer. Shabaz will be all the rage after his unlucky run at Yarmouth, but I’m not convinced the extra distance is within his compass.
He’s a classy enough performer, having put up a very solid effort when beaten, just under two lengths by Lattam in the Irish Lincoln earlier this season. Majestic bids to get his season back on track after a below par effort last time, but the ground is a slight concern with him. Star Harbour can’t have it soft enough and jockey Dylan Brown McMonagle is riding at the top of his game after banging in the winners at Galway.
He was a ready winner at Haydock in an apprentice contest, which means he races off the same mark of 81 now and everything looks in place for a follow-up success. Manila Scouse is very uncomplicated from a tactics point of view and is drawn next door to the likely pace-setter, Grace Angel, so will get a perfect tow into the contest.
I’m going to give Spirit of Light (each-way) one more chance at a huge each-way price as the connections reach for the visor to get his focus back on track. I just pray that they hold them up in the early stages and get him to relax. If they can manage to get that part of the jigsaw in place, he will be rattling home in the lucky last.
