DANDY’S ANGEL arrives in tremendous heart, bagging her third success of the campaign over this sort of trip at Beverley 16 days ago, edging ahead close home to win by another narrow margin. She has gone well at this venue previously (runner-up in this race 12 months ago), too, and she could well be the answer from 3 lb higher. Just Hiss finished off well when runner-up to reopposing Dogged at Beverley last week and that pair can feature again, while Wolverhampton winner The New Marwan can also be involved.
RAINWATER only made his debut at Haydock on Sunday, so this is a quick enough turnaround, but he was well backed on that occasion and shaped with plenty of promise, beaten only by a well-bred filly. He pulled well clear of the remainder and that form sets the standard, so with the prospect of even more to come, he is capable of going one place better. However, Royal Zabeel is very interesting with Ryan Moore up after showing a fair bit on debut here last month, so will likely prove a big danger.
POINT GIVEN made plenty of appeal on paper – he is a half-brother to high-class Toormore and very smart Estidhkaar – and shaped very well on his debut at Doncaster last month, making good headway approaching the final furlong and staying on well without being given a hard time. That looked a good race beforehand and the form is starting to work out and, given he has the potential to improve significantly for that experience, he may take a bit of stopping. Classy Boy also arrives on the back of a promising opening run at the same meeting at Doncaster and is second choice.
There are several course specialists in this field, but none more so than CARRIGILLIHY, who has five wins at this track to his name, including two already this season over a mile and a half. He has never won beyond that distance, but did shape well over two miles in a useful contest at York last year, and he remains on a fair mark judged on the pick of his efforts. He is expected to resume winning ways back at this venue, likely at the main expense of Giovanni Change, who will be a big danger if getting a soft lead, while El Borracho can’t be ruled out, either.
Allowing for his rider’s claim, TELE RED comes here operating just 4 lb above the mark he scored from in good style at York 12 days ago, hitting the front a furlong out and continuing to pour it on. Karl Burke’s charge looks a big player in his hat-trick bid returned to a track he’s gone well at previously. Perfect Swiss was better than he could show over course and distance last time and is another to consider, with Casilli and last year’s winner Global Spirit also worth a second look.
There are a few with chances, but KING OF TONGA showed the benefit of a breathing operation when a recent second at Beverley, probably sent for home earlier than ideal but leaving the impression he’s on a fair mark. With that run under his belt, he can go one place better off the same mark given that form has been franked since. Impressor is enjoying an excellent season and poses a big threat to Declan Carroll’s former course and distance winner, however.
Pontefract regular CORINTHIA KNIGHT – he is a five-time course and distance winner – lurks on a very tempting mark and is worth chancing to repeat his win in this race from last year having not had much go his way here the last twice. A number of other course and distance winners make plenty of appeal, International Girl and Ghathanfar the pick of the older brigade ahead of three-year-old Harry’s Halo.
