15:45 – SHEIKH MAZ MAHOOD
Spoof will be of major interest if taking his chance (due to run in the 7.30 on Saturday night), while Tim Easterby’s pair Copper Knight and Manila Scouse (second choice) are also of some interest. Preference is for SHEIKH MAZ MAHOOD, however, with testing ground no concern for Declan Carroll’s 4yo and this race looking an easier assignment than the hot Curragh handicap he ran creditably in five weeks ago.
16:15 – RAINWATER
With no form to go on, the betting should be revealing. RAINWATER looks a likely type on paper and he could be best equipped for today’s test, although Amroon (second choice) and Forever Blue have something to recommend them.
16:45 – BE PROUD
Dark Trooper is still of interest as a sprinter but he’s yet to face ground slower than good to soft and he was taken out of an Ascot handicap on account of soft ground in May. Aplomb and Faro De San Juan will be suited by conditions and have each-way claims but last month’s Doncaster one-two BE PROUD and Impeller may be the pair to focus on. The selection is still well treated despite two recent wins and can complete his hat-trick. Minnesota Lad ran well at Doncaster yesterday and will be dangerous if turned out quickly too

17:15 – DERRY LAD
Auld Toon Loon has form figures of 211 in handicaps when he’s at 1m2f and his latest win came in battling style on soft ground. He is not passed over easily but DERRY LAD confirmed at Navan in March that he acts on heavy going and that improved show has been followed by others for two wins in Britain. Four of the next six home at Pontefract last time went on to win their next starts and another of those has also scored since, so the form is standing up well. Wind Your Neck In is third on the list.
17:45 – BRANDAISY
Richard Fahey has enjoyed success with the the family of BRANDAISY, who looks a likely improver now up in trip on nursery debut. She earns the vote ahead of two-time soft-ground winner Nellie Leylax, while conditions are also unlikely to faze last month’s C&D winner Paladin.
18:15 – NIGIRI
The 3yo NIGIRI looked a filly to follow when winning comfortably over 7f here last month and she can make it 2-2 in handicaps. Fellow 3yo Raimunda won in good style in a heavy-ground C&D novice last time and is feared most now tackling her first handicap. Last-time-out winner Iato’s Angel could also go well.
18:45 – CINNODIN
There is a strong field for this race and it’s likely to be run on heavy ground, which he has not encountered before, but CINNODIN (nap)’s 2m win on soft last time confirmed his great strength in stamina and he makes plenty of appeal. His fellow 3yo Miss Cynthia could also bring potential but has more to prove under the conditions. In-form jumper Pyramid Place may present the greatest threat, although Kalamity Kitty could also be very interesting if she avoids the misbehaviour which prevented her from taking part at York eight days ago
