13:50 – GOLD SPEED

Last year’s winner Teed Up can’t get enough of this place and must go well again after this week’s heroics on the Flat, while Stilyker may yet have more to offer for Willie Mullins. However, at greater odds, it could pay to take a chance on GOLD SPEED, who belatedly returns to the scene of his maiden success in 2019. He’s running well and a good pace around here over a stiff 2m is ideal.

14:20 – MENINDEE

The amount of rain could have a big bearing here. First reserve MENINDEE seems sure to get a run given that three of these are due to run here on Friday, and if the ground doesn’t deteriorate too much she could have a major say. Pure Sirloin could emerge a serious threat, others to consider include Junior Rattler and 2021 winner Macgiloney.

14:55 – SAINT SAM

With his sights lowered SAINT SAM has his confidence back and although this represents a tougher task in terms of jumping, the opposition is no better than those he so easily brushed aside at Killarney and he can complete the hat-trick. Stumptown could chase him home.

15:30 – HEREDITARY RULE

Having missed the cut for Wednesday’s Plate HEREDITARY RULE could be the one to beat here although the Punchestown winner wouldn’t want too much rain. He should have enough speed for this shorter trip and is preferred over Roseys Hollow and last year’s winner Vado Forte.

16:00 – DUNUM

Seven of these contested Tuesday’s Colm Quinn BMW Mile including eighth-placed Current Option who has won this race three times before and, like several, didn’t get the clearest of runs. DUNUM finished third after racing up with the pace and appears the one most likely to be as effective back in trip here. Of those who didn’t race on Tuesday, those appealing most are Hotrocket, Laugh A Minute and On A Session, the latter three times runner-up in the race.

16:30 – STROMBERG

It’s very difficult to get away from STROMBERG. Neither of his half-brothers could win as two-year-olds but he looks far more precocious after finishing clear of the rest behind a stylish winner at Leopardstown. Kiki Roberts ran a nice race last time but the danger could be Romford, who didn’t run at all badly behind the subsequent Coventry fourth on his debut and is likely to be well suited by today’s longer trip.

17:00 – QUANTUM LIGHT

A key race could be the 7f handicap here on Wednesday in which QUANTUM LIGHT (nap) finished just ahead of La Tulipe Noire. While the latter will benefit from this return to further, the selection did well to remain on the scene after chasing a solid gallop. Malbay Madness is another to have performed with distinction this week and he’s also feared together with handicap newcomer Guided.

17:30 – YOU OUGHTA KNOW

The closing race of the 2023 festival and dominated last year by Willie Mullins, with the favourite under son Patrick beating the second string partnered by Jody Townend. History could repeat itself as Mullins rode both YOU OUGHTA KNOW and Aurora Vega to clearcut debut wins and his preference for the Kilbeggan form speaks volumes. Crooked Tannie shouldn’t be underestimated and while Lionnar is up against far stronger opposition than at the Curragh, she’s bred to keep progressing.
