Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPS table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…
Cast-iron stayer who nearly always gives his running and after solid efforts at Chester (2m2f, soft) and Royal Ascot (2m4f, good) he bagged last month’s Northumberland Plate (2m AW) by half a length; CALLING THE WIN won this two years ago and later that campaign nearly won the November Handicap off this very mark; no ground preferences; hard to knock.
Course form at 7f (sole run on this track) and useful effort in a similar race to this over 1m at Ascot in October (good to soft; first-time blinkers, kept since); no frills about his handicap mark but TACARIB BAY is a solid contender after last week’s more than satisfactory return from a break; has won on soft.
Humble beginnings but MAKAROVA continues to improve and gave it a useful shot from wider on the course than Equality in a Group 3 at Sandown last month; seems to handle good to soft but the signs so far are that good or quicker suits best.
Acts on soft; placed over 1m2f/1m4f in May and has seemed a non-stayer at about 1m6f twice since; RATHGAR now drops back in distance/grade; quite interesting returned to Goodwood, having shown progressive form here at two.
