17:52 – Battista

BATTISTA made the most of a good opportunity to gain his first victory at Wolverhampton last time, drawing clear late on to win by two and a half lengths in comfortable fashion. He now makes the switch to handicaps and remains one to keep on the right side for the powerful Gosden yard. He should have more to offer after just three starts and it will be a surprise if an opening British Horseracing Authority (BHA) mark of 77 proves as good as he is.

18:22 – Fifty Grand Slater

FIFTY GRAND SLATER proved a disappointment on his latest outing at Nottingham, but it’s far too soon to be writing him off after just one bad run. He is better judged on the form he showed when filling the runner-up spot on his previous start at Wolverhampton, sticking to his task well to be beaten just a length and a quarter. That was a career-best effort and an opening BHA mark of 71 is unlikely to prove beyond him on today’s nursery debut if the fitting of cheekpieces can get him back on track.

 

18:52 – Emperors Star

EMPERORS STAR was turned over at short odds on his debut at Newmarket last month, but he still shaped with plenty of promise, keeping on well to be beaten just a length and a half. That form is the best on offer in this line-up and the small ‘p’ attached to his Timeform rating denotes that he is sure to improve.

A couple of interesting newcomers feature among the opposition in this novice event, but Emperor’s Star rates a very solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt.

19:27 – Alhambra Palace

ALHAMBRA PALACE showed improved form to open his account at Ascot on Friday, hitting the front two furlongs out and quickly forging clear from there to land the spoils by four and three-quarter lengths. This will be a quicker-than-ideal turnaround, but he seems sure to take plenty of stopping in his follow-up bid if arriving in the same sort of form. He is certainly well treated under a 6lb penalty and the longer trip today should be right up his street, too.

 

20:02 – Ellade

ELLADE produced her best effort of the campaign when finding only an unexposed three-year-old too good at Chepstow last time, doing well under the circumstances to be beaten just a length and a quarter having conceded first run. She can line up from the same mark today and Alec Voikhansky, who is good value for his 5lb claim, takes over in the saddle.

In a wide-open heat, she gets the vote to end her losing run up in trip having shaped like it would suit at Chepstow.

20:32 – Eastern Charm

EASTERN CHARM made it three from four this season with a narrow victory at Chelmsford last month, just holding on to get the verdict by a neck. She may have been slightly fortunate given that the runner-up didn’t enjoy the rub of the green, but that was still a career-best effort.

She is very much the type to go on improving, too, and another bold bid seems assured with the claim of the promising Adam Farragher offsetting a further 3lb rise in the weights.
