17:10 – Absurde

Willie Mullins has four entries – all four previous winners. They’re all two milers so they’ll take each other on in this novice hurdle. Absurde is the stable pick with Paul Townend riding and he was last seen chasing Vauban home at Royal Ascot. Of the others. Maybe Williamstowndancer is the one to chase him home. She’s not a bad mare.

17:40 – Sharjah / Flaming Moon forecast

The plan was for Sharjah to go novice chasing earlier in the summer but he went to the Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary instead. Things didn’t really work out for him there so he’ll start his chasing career in this instead of trying to regain the Galway Hurdle. Sharjah will be short in the market and Flaming Moon – who won here last year – could be the one to chase him home or one in the ‘without the favourite’ market.

18:10 – Tannola

There’s been a bit of chat about Dermot Weld’s Tannola but she’ll have to handle soft ground as it has been raining non-stop in Galway for two days. The Weld yard won this contest last year with Tahiyra.

18:40 – Casanova

The feature race of the night is the Colm Quinn BMW Mile and as usual it’s ultra-competitive. Adrian McGuinness has farmed this in recent years and the stable always has plenty of entries. Ronan Whelan rides Casanova who was second in this race last year to Magic Chegaga and is only a couple of pounds higher. Johnny Murtagh’s Blues Emperor is the ‘plunge’ horse in the market and is chasing a hat-trick.

19:50 – Sirjack Thomas

If Aido McGuinness doesn’t hit the net with one of his runners in the BMW Mile than he may get some compensation with a previous winner of that feature race, Sirjack Thomas. He looks like he’s coming back to form and won over a mile at the Curagh in May. Adam Caffrey takes off a valuable 5lb and he gets to run just below that last winning mark over this 7f trip.

20:20 – Safair Quest

Tony Martin is no stranger to big-race success at Galway and saddle Safari Quest in the final race on Tuesday night. He missed the 2022 season after leaving Ger Lyons’ yard in September 2021 but could make his presence felt here.
