13:45 – ESTIFADA
Those with experience don’t set an exacting standard, so it may be worth siding with ESTIFADA, who represents a yard that have plenty of first-time-out juvenile winners. She is bred to be useful and she won’t have to run to a high level to make a winning start. La Habanera and Chumbaa can fight it out for minor honours.
14:15 – ASCARI
ASCARI remains a maiden, but he is one of the least exposed in this field, and he ran a solid race when third at Windsor last time. He produced a career-best effort on his first start since being gelded, prominent in the betting and sure to have finished closer still had he not been checked in his run at a crucial stage. Ascari finished with running left at the line and he makes plenty of appeal having been left on the same mark. Perfect Swiss has a good record over course and distance and produced another bold show here last week, so is expected to be in the mix again.
14:50 – POKER FACE
POKER FACE won all three of his starts last season, including two at this course, and he has run some good races in defeat so far this year. He quickly dispelled his below-par run at Royal Ascot when finishing runner-up in a mile and a half listed race at Sandown last time, looking the likely winner for much of the straight. He and the eventual third were overhauled only late on by one coming from further back and, judged on that effort, he should appreciate this return to a mile. Poker Face is unbeaten at this track and is expected to deservedly get his head back in front now. The return to a mile should also help Raadobarg and he can pose the biggest threat.

15:25 – AULD TOON LOON
AULD TOON LOON arrives in cracking form having recorded a big career best when resuming winning ways at Chester a fortnight ago, challenging at the two-furlong pole and soon asserting in the final furlong, edging to his right in the closing stages. He has a good profile, especially over this trip, and he is strongly fancied to defy a 4 lb rise in the weights. Dubai Souq made a pleasing return at Windsor in May and is feared most, whilst sole three-year-old representative Orchestra can also make his presence felt.
16:00 – TRIBUTE
This looks a weak maiden and it is an excellent opportunity for TRIBUTE to open his account. He ran his best race to date fitted with a first-time visor when hitting the frame in a mile and a quarter handicap at Windsor 13 days ago, belatedly proving his is effective on turf. This is a much easier assignment and it will be disappointing if he isn’t able to get his head in front. Fellow Newmarket raider Dubawi Warrior is selected to follow him home.
16:35 – FLEURIR
Another race which hasn’t much depth and the Roger Varian-trained FLEURIR looks the one to beat. She finished runner-up to the now-smart Coppice on his return earlier this year and ran to a similar level when finding only an above-average newcomer too strong at Newmarket last time. That form sets a pretty good standard in this field and this looks a good opportunity. Retraction showed ability on his sole start last year and looks the obvious danger, whilst market support for bumper winner Le Fils de Force could prove significant.
17:10 – ASTAPOR
ASTAPOR has shown improved form this year, recording his third win of the season at Carlisle at the beginning of the month, showing a good attitude in the closing stages, and he can score again in his current mood. Soul Seeker has been holding his form well and would be feared most if taking up this engagement, while Muatadel can give another good account.
