Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPS table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.

Don’t know what a NAPs Table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.

So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…

13:50 Ascot – Lunar Shine (The Guardian)

The standard-setting Soprano had a hard race at Sandown on Thursday and would be opposable if asked to run again. Pretty Crystal (second choice) has to be high up the shortlist on her Albany effort and her dam handled soft ground, while Symbology commands respect on this sharp rise in class when the stable won the recent July Stakes with a similar type. The suggestion is another dark one in LUNAR SHINE, who made up a lot of ground to win as she liked at Thirsk under ground conditions that were getting softer by the minute. A 300,000gns half-sister to a Group 1 winner, she’s bred to compete at this level.

14:05 York – Ey Up Its Maggie (The Sun)

Top Irish jumps jockey Paul Townend rides EY UP IT’S MAGGIE, who has a handy mark and possesses plenty of good course form. She gets the nod ahead of the in-form Sound Reason who is partnered by Brian Hughes. Ecclesiastical is next on the list, while Speedacus is a recent winner. The mob-handed Paul Midgley has won three of the five runnings and the well-handicapped Strong Johnson is one to watch in the betting.

15:00 Ascot – Fresh (Daily Mail)

Following a similar preparation, FRESH could well follow up last year’s success in this race. He’s on a workable mark and the return to 7f looks ideal after he finished well in his latest Wokingham attempt. Tacarib Bay, an interesting each-way contender, is second choice ahead of excellent 7f campaigner Biggles who holds an obvious chance. Baradar would command major respect if the going is soft/heavy, while Spangled Mac would be appealing if the ground goes the other way. Vafortino and Ramazan are other suggestions for the shortlist. Several others also have possibilities in a typically well-contested International.

15:40 Ascot – King Of Steel (The Times)

This cracking King George has attracted a particularly deep field and features rematches between some of the sport’s top names. The Classic generation may gain the upper hand and unexposed KING OF STEEL is taken to reverse Derby placings with Auguste Rodin, who still commands major respect in a fascinating rematch. Hukum is feared most among the older runners, ahead of old rival and last year’s winner Pyledriver. Emily Upjohn, provided she settles, is another notable contender, while Luxembourg is interesting back up in distance.
