13:50 Ascot – Komat
Produced a very good performance in the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting behind Porta Fortuna. Komat was held up at the back of the pack and was a never nearer sixth, suggesting that if she is a little more streetwise this time – she can land this valuable pot.
14:05 York – Strong Johnson (each-way)
There are a few who are starting to look well handicapper, but none more so than Strong Johnson. He was rated much higher when trained in Ireland and only attracted some money for the Midgley team last time, suggesting he is rated now to go and get the job done. It would be no surprise to see him rake up a sequence once he breaks the loosing habit.
14:25 Ascot – Ameynah
Despite a long absence of 454 days, Ameynah could easily prove a class above these rivals. She was last seen when beaten only 3 1/4 lengths by Cachet in the 1,000 Guineas and it appears that the Roger Varian team have been waiting for softer conditions for her return. She was a non-runner at the July meeting in Group One company at HQ and this is a significant drop TO Group 3 company for her belated reappearance.
14:40 York – Summerghand
A competitive 6f handicap where some old sprinting favourites line up. You won’t find too many that are in front of the handicapper but Summerghand finds himself dropping down below a triple-digit rating for the first time in a long time. His course & distance form is strong and he won’t mind whatever the prevailing conditions are as he has won on everything from good to firm to soft ground.
15:00 Ascot – Spirit of Light (each-way)
Ian Williams’ runner is a massive price and certainly looks a big each-way player. The crack Irish apprentice Sean Dylan Bowen is on board and takes off a valuable 7lbs. Spirit of Light was kept busy at the Royal meeting running in the Buckingham Palace and also in the Wokingham, just two days later. Both of those runs were on quick ground and he can benefit for the softer conditions now.

15:15 York – My Prospero
There will be no excuses for My Prospero as he drops down in company to try and find that winning habit again. He’s clear on official ratings (121) and races off level weights with his four rivals. It should be a bit of a point and shoot exercise. If you’re playing the 1-2 exacta then Checkandchallenge could chase him home after getting a poor run when seventh at Royal Ascot to Royal Champion in the Wolferton Stakes.
15:40 Ascot – Auguste Rodin
The Ballydoyle runner comes in on the back of two excellent Derby victories at Epsom and the Curagh and now steps into open company getting a massive 11lb weight-for-age allowance off the older horses. He’s very hard to get away from despite a few trying to rubbish his performance in Ireland last time. If you look at the sectionals for the final quarter mile it will tell you we are dealing with a top-class performer. This mid-summer highlight is going to live up to its name and Auguste Rodin can come out on top in a true clash of the generations.
