I’m with Soprano for George Boughey with Frankie Dettori on board. She can hold Pretty Crystal and you could argue that Soprano should be the favourite. She ran at Sandown on Thursday but was a beaten favourite in third and we’ll have to see if she lines up again.
This is the annual race where jump jockeys ride over 5f on the Flat. I like Speedacus for David O’Meara with Sean Bowen on board. He comes to York on the back of a win at Doncaster last week and he can go well again. It’s also worth noting that Paul Townend is on board Ey Up Its Maggie at a decent price so keep an eye on that, it could be a plan!
We’ve seen the best of Random Harvest and Cadeau Belle might struggle against the opposition so I’m on Ameynah. She could be the sleeper in terms of class. She ran really well in the 1,000 Guineas last year and she could go well if she’s fit enough on her season al debut.
Kevin Ryan and Tom Eaves have teamed up with Magical Spirit from stall four and he has form on soft ground. I’d ignore his last run on the all-weather and he’s coming here with a rating of 96, which is definitely workable. He can handle the ground and I’ll be on him if he’s a decent price.
It’s too competitive a race to not look for a nice price in this, so I can’t side with Biggles. Bless Him can be competitive off a mark of 112 for Jamie Spencer and David Simcock. He ran a solid fourth in the Bunbury Cup and he can go well again. My back-up pick is Safe Voyage and Fresh has potential but he’s too short in the market at the moment.
My Prospero is made for this race. He’s probably not genuine Group 1 class and I hope Tom Marquand rides him like he’s the best horse in the race. Hopefully, he rolls forward and gets the job done.
The feature race of the day looks a brilliant contest. Auguste Rodin is the Epsom Derby winner but are we forgetting about what happened at the Curragh? He just about won that but made hard work of it. I’ve been with King Of Steel all week and I have to stick with him. He’s the real deal and he’ll relish the ground too. The tactics are going to be fascinating and that will decide the race. Luxembourg would be my each-way pick.
