PANAREA has an excellent pedigree – she is closely related to the same connections’ top-class two-year-old Pinatubo – and she makes plenty of appeal on her debut in a race where the ones with experience don’t set the bar too high. The market will likely reveal more, but she is preferred to Pink Satin, who may find it hard to give weight away all round. Rawaasi showed promise when third at Kempton and is also worth a mention.
KING EAGLE has a smart pedigree and has a bit about him physically, too, but he reached just a fairly useful level when trained by Michael Bell. However, he has won both of his starts in handicaps since joining Nicky Henderson, looking like a handicapper to follow when winning over a mile and three quarters at Newmarket last month. The step up to two miles should suit and he remains capable of better, so is expected to defy a 3 lb rise in the weights. Pledgeofallegiance flopped at Haydock but could hardly be in better hands to bounce back in a change of headgear.
Plenty are in with chances in this competitive handicap, but MOBASHR arrives at the top of his game, getting off the mark for these connections at Doncaster earlier in the month and running two solid races in defeat since. He was at the opposite side of the track to the pair that beat him at Yarmouth last time which didn’t help, and he remains on a mark he can be competitive from, while the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye. In-form Pearle d’Or is another weighted to go well, with Grenham Bay, Flying Secret and Halla Dubai all in the mix too.
GAASSEE remains relatively lightly raced for a five-year-old and he got his career back on track without really getting the rub of the green when hitting the frame in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock last time. He was hampered on the home turn and met more trouble soon after, but he stayed on well when again short of room under a hands-and-heels ride in the closing stages. This race hasn’t got as much depth and he looks the class act in this field. Oneforthegutter is unexposed over this trip and is feared most ahead of Andrew Balding’s City Streak, who had an excuse when behind Youthful King at Windsor last time and had been in good form prior to that.
WAY OF LIFE completed a five-timer in a mile and a half handicap at Newbury in May last year and he shaped with promise on his return from 11 months off at Windsor 11 days ago. That effort was all the more encouraging given how weak he was in the betting, finishing with running left at the line. He races from the same mark now and will also appreciate the step back up in trip. Unexposed pair Scintillante and Alhambra Palace are feared most.
CUBAN BREEZE often gives her running and was only denied by an improver at Newmarket a week ago. She remains 2 lb below her last winning mark and she gets the marginal vote over Glamorous Breeze and Woolhampton, who fought out the finish at Windsor last time out and also figure on fair marks.
