Hyrcanian is a half-sister to several winners, including a couple of useful sorts, and is in excellent hands with Karl Burke who has had more two-year-old winners than any other trainer in Britain this season. She makes appeal on paper and can strike on debut. Showhound, another newcomer, is also worth noting and could provide the main danger.
Nelson Rose didn’t show much on her first couple of starts on the all-weather but she proved a lot more competitive when upped in trip and allowed to stride on at Epsom a couple of weeks ago. Nelson Rose was reeled in close home, going down by a head, but that was a more encouraging effort and sets the standard here. She ought to launch a bold bid if handling softer conditions here.
Mutanaaseq goes well around here and has posted three good efforts over course and distance this season, going down by less than a length in second either side of posting an authoritative success in May. Mutanaaseq has been running creditably of late and stuck to his task well when runner-up over six furlongs at Nottingham last Friday, leaving the impression that he’d benefit from the return to seven furlongs.
Feud produced his best effort yet when getting off the mark at Haydock earlier this month, proving well suited by the step up to 11 and a half furlongs and asserting late on. He benefited from being held up in a well-run race, but he’s a low-mileage sort who should still have more to offer at trips around a mile and a half, so he’s taken to defy a 3 lb rise in the weights.
Jamil has three course-and-distance wins to his name, including one this season, and he returned to form when third here last week. Jamil was typically slowly into stride and raced off the pace, but he made headway over three furlongs out and stayed on inside the final furlong. He races off the same mark here and can give another good account around this venue.
Quercus gained a fourth course-and-distance success when scoring here last week, getting the job done in gutsy fashion to win by a head. Quercus had run well to finish second at Thirsk on his previous outing so he is clearly in good form at present and should launch another bold bid under a 5 lb penalty for his latest effort.
