Horse Racing tips: A 12/1 play leads the way at Southwell today

The Racing Post tipster is keen on Riggsby in the final race of the day.

14:45 – Al Zaraqaan

Chasing debutants Valentino Dancer and Impulsive One (preferred in that order) are useful hurdlers on their day but it’s hard to see beyond AL ZARAQAAN, who comes here after winning a competitive Uttoxeter handicap three weeks ago and is now 3-3 over fences. Furthermore, Sam England’s runner is probably the one best equipped to cope if the ground is softer than good.

15:20 – Swapped

Duke Of Luckley was well backed to exploit a reduced handicap mark here three weeks ago but, after travelling well, his finishing effort was rather disappointing and he had to settle for third. Preference is for SWAPPED, who was a pretty convincing winner at Worcester last month and probably still has potential as a chaser. That said, ground slower than good would be a likely negative for both of those and will increase interest in Raecius Felix.

 

15:55 – River Of Joy (NAP)

This can go to RIVER OF JOY (NAP), who finished well and was nicely in command in the closing stages of a 2m novice at Ffos Las last month. Both her running style and her pedigree promise further improvement over today’s longer trip. The other two hurdle winners Manimole and Me Belle Noire have pretty solid claims but the biggest threat to the selection may come from Sunday Soldier, who was placed in two bumpers in the spring.

16:25 – Sacchoandvanzetti

Handicap debutant Our Scholar (second choice) and Hiconic both attempt to complete hat-tricks here but Fergal O’Brien’s new recruit SACCHOANDVANZETTI drops in grade after a creditable third in a Listed handicap on his final Irish start and might be the answer.

17:00 – Imperial Data

The pair to concentrate on are the consistent Basford and the lightly raced Irish point winner IMPERIAL DATA. Preference is for the Rebecca Menzies-trained runner, who has shown enough in two attempts at Hexham to suggest that he will be able to get off the mark under rules sooner rather than later.

17:30 – Riggsby

Methodtothemagic got her career back on track with an emphatic same course and distance (C&D) win on her recent return to hurdling and is respected. However, it might pay to give another chance to RIGGSBY, who has a point to prove after a poor run three weeks ago but made a very promising handicap hurdle debut over 2m here last month and, if his Flat stamina is a guide, can improve over today’s longer trip. Coconut Twist, Bensini and Skeeter Park are others to consider.
