There is every chance that Henry Longfollow could go one better than his brilliant dam Minding by winning first time out. However, the experience gained by MYTHOLOGY in two races, one of them a Group 2 event, could prove crucial. Ocean Conquestand Versatile are potentially interesting newcomers.
The Chesham second PEARLS AND RUBIES was able to win over 5f on her debut. Even though she needed every yard, this trip should be fine. Kairyu created a good impression with a winning debut though the quality of the form is possibly a little suspect. Probably for a combination of reasons Genzburg was not seen to best effect at Tipperary last time, and she may turn the tables on promising maiden Gaenari.
It may be worth taking a chance with HISPANIC, who looked useful on soft ground at two and has found 5f inadequate in three 2023 starts. Admittedly, he has plenty to find with Master Matt and Big Gossey on Rockingham Handicap running, but the longer trip and ease in the ground could make a big difference. Aussie Girl is respected for her consistency and Gypsy Woman is relatively unexposed. Stablemates Dandyville and Blairmayne could also feature.
Last Saturday’s July Cup fourth ART POWER boasts a flawless record in Ireland and can maintain that trend on this rare venture over 5f. The home defence is headed by last year’s winner Ladies Church, who scored readily from Moss Tucker at Naas in May and French import Go Athletico who impressed when much too good for Ano Syra at Cork.
With plenty of rain in the forecast, conditions should come right for SAVETHELASTDANCE(NAP) who probably found the ground a bit too lively when running an excellent second at Epsom and she can give Aidan O’Brien his seventh win in the race. The main danger could come from her own stable with Ribblesdale winner Warm Heart well worth a crack at Group 1 level. Comhra had an excuse last time and she’s a potential improver over this sort of trip.
This looks like a good opportunity for EMILY DICKINSON to get her head back in front. She ran with credit in the Ascot Gold Cup last time, sets a solid standard on form and with conditions in her favour, she could be hard to beat. Her unexposed stablemate Gooloogong is another proven in conditions and Okita Soushi is one that could be in the mix if the ground doesn’t deteriorate as forecast.
The well bred Democracy looks interesting dropping down in class on handicap debut but narrow preference is for last week’s winner OCEAN BAROQUE. Soft ground seems to be the key to him and with rain in the forecast, he’s taken to confirm form with Sanshiro who may get closer to the selection with a pull at the weights this time.
A solid standard is set by MACHNAMH who was only narrowly denied at Limerick last time and a repeat of that level of form is likely to make her hard to beat. Perfect Poise was too bad to be true last time and she could give the selection most to think about if she’s back to the level of her return run at Naas.
