Point Of Attack commands obvious respect downgraded from Listed level but the key to this race could be the Haydock maiden in which Summit shaded WILD GODDESS. Both shaped with considerable promise, yet the selection did mighty well to finish where she did after completely blowing the start.
It was a promising first run in handicaps by WEYDAAD and, while she lacks competitive turf experience, the booking of William Buick negates that concern to a large degree. Second choice Nikki’s Girl really should have won at Wolverhampton last time and she can deal with this higher level of competition. Strike also makes the shortlist on this return to 7f.
Kiaraad and English Oak carry penalties against stronger opposition than they beat recently and Modesty may prove best of the previous winners. However, ELNAJMM is evidently a winner waiting to happen having been held back by his inexperience thus far. Jeff Koons has been off for three months but it was a promising debut that he made and, sent off at odds-on for that, he’s presumably considered to be decent.
Like A Tiger is as interesting as any of these but he badly needs some rain which looks unlikely. ZIRYAB will need to settle better than he did at Royal Ascot but the potential is there to be the best handicapped of these. Therapist is a C&D handicap winner who has been consistent bar the one blip.
Star Guest looked as though she had been sprinting all her life when impressing here three weeks ago and is hugely respected despite going up 10lb. Sophia’s Starlight is another filly coming here on a roll and so too PEONY, who was nicely on top of Cuban Breeze at Haydock despite being carried left by that rival. Racing on the wing was not ideal that day and this stiffer track should suit.
This is a significant drop in grade for CONQUISTADOR (nap), who was an excellent third at Royal Ascot last month and can continue his progress here. Skallywag Bay has been in good form lately and, with 5lb claimer Alec Voikhansky enlisted, she may provide the main threat. Isle Of Lismore will probably be on the premises too.
