I am looking forward to this Saturday working on ITV racing with really good action from my local track at Newbury plus the cream of the races from Market Rasen where Peter Vaughan will try to win the Summer Plate for the third year in a row with Francky Du Berlais.
13:50 Newbury – Epic Poet
I am taking a chance on the Freddy and Martyn Meade trained Epic Poet here as I feel the top two in the betting have questions to answer.
Some of Epic Poet’s form is top-notch having finished third in a Group 3 at Longchamp. He does have an absence to overcome and you’re taking his fitness on trust, but I’m willing to take a chance on him as I feel he is good value in an open contest.
14:05 Market Rasen – Wavering Down
I backed Wavering Down last time at Uttoxeter, and even though he jumped the last in front, I was never confident of him hanging on because I just don’t think he stays that 3 mile trip.
I think he’s better over this 2 1/2 miles and I’m willing to take another chance. This is an open contest but I feel this horse comes here in very good form and has to be of interest.
The other one that has to be respected in here at a big price is Oceanline, blinkered for the first time. I think he is definitely capable of better.
14:25 Newbury – Euchen Glen (each-way)
Again, I am taking a little bit of a leap of faith but I can’t help but feel Paul Mulrennan is coming all the way down here to ride. This horse is a bit of a hero for Jim Goldie and he has won at Newbury in the past.
If we get a lot of rain which we might do, he will cope with conditions and I feel at the price Euchen Glen (each-way) cannot be ignored.
14:40 Market Rasen – Myristica
Jack Tudor and David Pipe have really hit the ground running since announcing their partnership, and this Myristica could help cement that. She has looked good in novice and maiden hurdles so far and the form of her win at Worcester got a boost when the second won on Thursday at the track.

15:00 Newbury – Commanche Falls
Another northern raider get the nod here and Commanche Falls loves to travel. He handles all types of ground and worn very nicely at the Curragh last time just showing his class. I think he might just be too good for these and should be winning.
15:15 Market Rasen – Francky Du Berlais
Peter and Sean Bowen are flying this summer and this will be a remarkable training feat if they are able to pull off this three timer. This Son of Saint Des Saints has managed to hover around this handicap mark when winning this the last two years. Francky Du Berlais certainly caught the eye staying on in third on his last run here at the track.
He is better off with second-favourite La Dominiale than he was in this race last year as she is 12lbs higher this time around. The Bowen trained Courtland has been deserted by Sean, and that could be a tip in itself.
Gloire D’athon is definitely a player. He was value for more than the winning distance at Uttoxeter last time and he is a strong traveler and will love the way this race is run.
15:35 – Newbury – Bobsleigh
Only beaten three links in the Coventry at Royal Ascot over 6 furlongs, I think the drop back to 5 should not inconvenience the Eve Johnson-Houghton trained Bobsleigh. He won the Woodcote at Epsom on quick ground. The only concern I would have is if we had a lot of rain and the ground came up soft, then I think it will be the favourite, Relief Rally, who will take all the beating.
