14:30 – Rakhine State

This looks a tight three-runner handicap chase where a chance is taken on RAKHINE STATE, who was holding his form well over fences earlier in the year, and perhaps wasn’t suited by the longer trip at Worcester when last seen in May. He has been in the mix from higher marks in the past and he should go close if back to his best from a career-low mark. Paros stopped the slide on his stable and chase debut when third at Worcester and is next best.

15:05 – By Your Side

This isn’t a strong race and will likely be fought out by the Gordon Elliot-trained pair. BY YOUR SIDE belatedly opened his account in a juvenile hurdle at Naas in March and has held his form well since bar his run at Bellewstown last week. That was too bad to be true, though, and he looks the one to beat on the pick of his form if back to his best. The market will likely tell us more about Condesa’s chances on her hurdling debut returning from a two-year absence.

15:40 – Shallow River

SHALLOW RIVER remains with few miles on the clock for a seven-year-old and he ran at least as well as ever when runner-up in a handicap at Market Rasen last month. He wasn’t fluent at the third-last, but he led on the bridle at two out and an untidy jump at the last didn’t help, but he pushed a well-in Flat type with a turn of foot all the way to the line. Shallow River is now 3 lb higher but he finds himself in a race which won’t take much winning and he is very much the one to beat. The enigmatic Malangen bids for a repeat win in this event and is next on the list.

16:15 – Born Famous

BORN FAMOUS didn’t manage to win in Ireland, but she left her previous efforts well behind when making a winning start for this yard in a handicap hurdle at this course in April and she hasn’t looked back since. She followed up in a handicap chase over three miles back at this track next time and completed a hat-trick returned to hurdles at Aintree last month, the winning margin that day rather underselling her superiority. Born Famous is now 5 lb higher returned to fences but she is a horse to keep firmly on the right side at present and a four-timer is on the cards. Sword of Fate is feared most now Norley is a non-runner.

16:50 – Petrastar

The trio of last-time-out winners look the ones to focus on, with PETRASTAR selected to make a winning return to hurdling having been a wide-margin winner on his second start over fences here just over three weeks ago. Second choice is Irish-raider Themanintheboots, who was another winner on that card and though hit hard by the handicapper, is fancied to be in the mix once again. Fabuleux du Clos makes his return after four months off the track and he completes the shortlist.

17:25 – Gambie Tiep

GAMBLE TIEP looks a bargain buy for the Ben Pauling team (picked up for £4,500), making a winning start for these connections in impressive fashion over fences at Uttoxeter five days ago, justifying strong support in the process. He made all of the running, travelling powerfully and always in command after leaving the back straight. He is just 5 lb higher now reverted back to hurdles and he will take plenty of beating if in similar form.
