13:45 – Ascot – Whenthedealinsdone (each way)
A crazy day of racing Saturday on ITV gets under way here with a heritage handicap over 5f. Some class acts in here. WHENTHEDEALINSDONE is on a handy mark of 92 and might enjoy carrying just 8st 8lb against classier types. The Roger Teal runner has blinkers on first time and hasn’t been totally disgraced this season. Last term he ran and won well at this track off a mark of 90 and he ca race here off 92. Has an each-way chance if anywhere near his best.
14:00 – York – Aramaic
ITV also go to York Saturday beginning with this handicap over 1m. ARAMAIC is down in trip for William Haggas and Tom Marquand but might like running at a strong gallop here or even go from the front if there is no pace. That was the case when he tried to make all at Sandown last time but faded close home.
14:20 – Ascot – Master Of The Seas
This is the Group 2 Summer Mile. A decent renewal. MASTER OF THE SEAS has never been the most straight forward but he’s a class act at his best. The Charlie Appleby runner finished second to Poetic Force in the 2021 2000 Guineas but has been off the track recently since down the field in the Dubai Turf in Meydan. If right should take a lot of beating under James Doyle.
14:35 – York – Great State (each way)
Up in class here for the Listed City Walls Stakes over 5f. GREAT STATE is an each-way shout as he was a little unlucky at Sandown last time. The Richard Fahey runner had every chance then before jumping a path and he couldn’t quite get involved after. Oisin Orr rides the improver and have a few quid on each way.
14:50 – Newmarket – Royal Dubai (each way)
ITV also go to Newmarket Saturday starting with this handicap over 1m. ROYAL DUBAI should go nicely here for Marco Botti and Neil Callan. The cheap purchase won nicely at Chelmsford two runs ago and then upped his game when second at Chester over a trip a little shorter. He stayed on well that day suggesting a mile is what he wants so must have an each-way chance if repeating the effort.

15:10 – York – Scampi
One of the big betting races of the day in the John Smith’s Cup heritage handicap over an extended 1m2f. SCAMPI is a character and has a horrible draw. That said he remains in good form and stays this distance strong so there is a chance of coming from off the pace once dropped in. That’s what the Andrew Balding runner did off a mark of 86 here in May and he’s now up 6lb. Lots of ability is using it so I’m not worried about the rise in figures. Callum Hutchinson needs to produce a brave ride.
15:25 – Newmarket – Great Truth
The Group 2 Superlative Stakes for youngsters over 7f. GREAT TRUTH was expected to score on debut at Leicester and duly did so by nearly six lengths. The son of Dubai stayed on well that day and suggested there is much more to come. Obviously impossible to know how good some of these are, but I would think we will get a good run from the Charlie Appleby/William Buick combination.
15:45 – York – Hamish
A Group 3 over 1m6f. HAMISH would prefer more juice in the ground but he’s a better horse than this lot and should score for Tom Marquand and William Haggas. My hope was a fine winner when last seen at Chester in the Ormonde – the only real worry is he’d like soft ground. That said as a young horse he did score on good to firm.
16:00 – Newmarket – Rainbow Fire (each way)
Here’s a decent betting heat in the Bunbury Cup Handicap over 7f. RAINBOW FIRE is ideally suited by 7f and has an each-way chance for Neil Callan ands Marco Botti. My selection weakened out of it when fancied for the Victoria Cup last time and would have no chance on that form. But he was fancied that day on the back of a decent success at Haydock and I suspect he didn’t run to form on the soft ground.
16:35 – Newmarket – Little Big Bear
Finally the highest class race of the day in the Group 1 July Cup over 6f. If LITTLE BIG BEAR runs he will be doing so having missed six crucial days of work. But I’m not that worried as how unfit can he have got between now and Royal Ascot? Obviously the Aidan O’Brien has to reverse form with Shaquille, but I suspect he wasn’t quite at his best at the Royal fixture and the former crack juvenile can hopefully bounce back to his best under Ryan Moore in a small field.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
