TAGABAWA did remarkably well to hold on for a close-up sixth place finish 22 days ago at the Royal Ascot meeting considering the pace in the early stages was incredibly strong. He was going in there with limited experience, and still looks as if he is very much on an upward curve and can bounce back here from a lenient-looking 97 rating.
VAFORTINO has to be a major player in a super competitive long sprint over 7f handicap. He has been eased a touch by the handicapper and the likely market leader Northern Express has been nudged up a couple of lbs in the handicap. He is drawn next door to the speed angle in Gweedore, and looks to get a perfect set-up into the contest.
Will have to up her game if she is to lower the colours of Star Of Mystery for the boys in blue, but there is no getting away from the fact that she is definitely going to progress as the season goes on. The red-hot favourite may well prove too keen in the early stages and upped in grade, that may well find her out. PERSIAN DREAMER can pounce late.
It’s only her third start this season, but is definitely her last chance to shine. She’s dropped back down in grade and returns to a course that has brought out a career-best performance before when she won a Listed contest. There’s a change of rider in PJ McDonald and from a middle draw in stall seven, ROYAL ACLAIM won’t be far away from the get go.
AIMERIC was settled in mid-division in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting. When the pace increased, he found himself hitting a flat spot and did really well to hit the line strongly suggesting that the extra quarter of a mile is well within his compass. He is still climbing the ladder.
Dropping back in distance will prove no worries for this talented daughter of Frankel. I’m praying they decide to drop NASHWA in for the early stages as making the running has not suited her lately. Her best performances have come when attacking a strong gallop from off-the-pace. Let’s hope she’s played late.
