13:45 Ascot – Whenthedealinsdone
I’m going to abandon Rohaan and I’m taking a little bit of a chance on a change of headgear with Whenthedealinsdone. He’s very well suited by this track. He’s not the easiest to catch right, he needs to be produced at exactly the right time and he can be a little frustrating but he was very, very impressive when winning off a mark of 90 here last season. He’s 92 now with blinkers on which will either be boom or bust but I think he’s worth a chance.
14:00 York – Blue For You
I’m going to go for Blue For You who was disappointing at Royal Ascot last time out in the Royal Hunt Cup but I’m not sure he would be an Ascot horse. He ran really well at York on more than one occasion, including when winning over course and distance in the Clipper Logistics Handicap off a mark of 96.
14:20 Ascot – Aldaary
I’d be quite keen on Aldaary here. He was very impressive on softish ground when winning the Spring Trophy last year. He loves this track and won back to back handicaps here in 2021 and won the Balmoral Handicap. We only saw him once last season and he looked like he needed the run on reappearance at Newmarket a fortnight ago.
14:35 York – Silky Wilkie, Nymphadora (each way)
With this likely to turn out soft I think Silky Wilkie has a massive chance and will go off as favourite. Nymphadora’s one I like at a bigger price. She wasn’t disgraced at all when 4th at Ayr on firm ground but she is a better filly with a bit of cut and defied quite a stiff handicap mark on heavy at Chester this season. She’s an each-way play.
14:50 Newmarket – Quantum Impact
It’s not my favourite race of the weekend but it is a competitive one. I’m struggling to find what I would consider to be a very strong angle into it but my pick would be Quantum Impact. You might get a slightly bigger price than what he should be because he was 13th in the Britannia last time. He ended up on the wrong side of the track at Ascot and I’m always willing to forgive that.
15:10 York – Majestic (NAP)
This has always been a tremendous race and it’s a big field again. I’ve been adamant all year that there are more handicaps for Majestic to win, although he’s turned out pretty quickly. Was right back to form at Sandown and finished strongly. The rain will be fine for him and he’s run respectable on good to firm as well. he wants a long straight and he’s given the indication there is a big, big handicap in him.
15:25 Newmarket – Haatem (each way)
One of the ones that I will end up backing in this is Haatem. He’s had four runs already but I think he’s a decent each-way bet. I don’t suggest for a second that he’s got the same long-term scope as City Of Troy but you might get a double-figure price about him. He’ll improve up to 7f and the caught the eye after blowing the start in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom.

15:45 York – Scriptwriter (each way)
I think Hamish will have ideal conditions. He’s a tremendously reliable character when he has the conditions. It’s very hard to make a case against him and I’ll put Scriptwriter up to be second to him.
He’s still underrated, Scriptwriter, and I know that his jumping went to hell in the spring over hurdles. The reason I liked him last year was not what he did over hurdles but what he did on the Flat. I think Hamish will win with Scriptwriter (each way) to follow him home.
16:00 Newmarket – Awaal
Awaal ran well in the Royal Hunt Cup last time out and could be suited by the way this race is run. He’s in stall 16 so is higher than normal but with the shape of the pace in this race it’s possible that middle to high stalls do best.
16:27 Chester – Mount Athos
This one isn’t on the box, but It’s a decent race and I think Mount Athos might be worth a look. He’ll be a lot happier back on turf and certainly at this track. He’s a reasonably-keen front runner who stays 7f but the interesting thing is that connections had put him in the July Cup. Back at 7f on a turning track I think Mount Athos can steal a lead here and they might find him hard to reel in.
16:35 Newmarket – Art Power (each way)
I’m going to go each way with and old favourite in this race because I think things are set up quite nicely with Azure Blue in stall 1 and Shaquille in stall 9 which I don’t think suits either. Art Power is a horse I like a lot, though he does have his limitations.
He tends to get done by the draw more often than not, except when he goes to Ireland and everything works out perfectly for him and he looks like a superstar! He’s got stall 5 which looks ideal here and I think he’ll run well with ground, trip and draw suiting him for the first time in a long time in the UK.
