Harry The Norseman will be dangerous if his chase form from May can be transferred back to hurdling but he was a very disappointing favourite last time and now has a point to prove. Pretty solid cases can be made for both Minella Youngy (second choice) and Pileup but perhaps the answer will be NASTASIYA, who returned from a layoff with pleasing effort last month and might have untapped potential over today’s longer trip.
288 yards added. Shark Hanlon was highly complimentary about ROSE IN THE PARK after she made all at Bangor and this looks very winnable. Ma Belle Noire has her quirks but could benefit from blinkers and her form commands respect. Moon Lady was limited in bumpers but could make a better hurdler.
216 yards added. Alan King’s SATURDAY SONG was denied his breakthrough win right on the line at Huntingdon and he can make amends for that here. Sisterandbrother could be the danger if it was the Fakenham factor that contributed to his latest defeat. Allbetsoff must have a shout and Sehayli is unwise to dismiss.
He carries a 7lb penalty for his Southwell win on Monday but ROCAMBOLAS (NAP) was given a pretty confident ride by Dylan Whelan before asserting there and is selected to maintain his progress. Good cases can also be made for Mutual Respect, Honneur De Sivola and We’ll Go Again (preferred in that order), while Irish point winner Heros De Moutiers looks interesting on today’s chasing debut.
306 yards added. Peter Bowen’s COURTLAND has shot back up the weights but he remains feasibly treated on old form and he can bring up the hat-trick. Captain Tom Cat will surely pop up off his current mark sooner or later and he’s second choice ahead of Shetland Bus.
Cases can be made for a few of these but top of the list is CROAGH PATRICK, who is still on a workable mark after his clear second at Hexham two weeks ago and will be a tough nut to crack if the addition of blinkers has any positive effect. Restandbethankful enjoyed himself when able to dominate over same course and distance (C&D) last month but there are no guarantees he’ll have things his own way today, and the runner-up Marajman may be able to reserve placings with him.
It’s not all about what they did last time out but THE BOOLA BOSS won well over 2m7f, shaping as if he would stay further, whereas the others all performed moderately, at best. Back form suggests Step Back should present the biggest obstacle but The Wrekin’s encouraging effort was only two runs back, so he is feared more.
