13:50 Sandown – Equality (Lawrence Taylor)

EQUALITY readily defied top weight in Class 2 handicap at Windsor (5f, good; in second-time hood) last month, producing a smart RPR. Worth his place back at Group level and may have more to offer in the retained headgear.

14:05 Haydock – Midnight Lion (Jason Heavey)

MIDNIGHT LION was fourth of eight on handicap/seasonal debut at Doncaster (14.5f, good) behind Struth. Making all at 10-11 in a six-runner maiden at Goodwood (1m6f, again good) was further improvement and left no doubt about his strength in stamina. It will be more difficult to pull that off from stall 12 but he’s probably well handicapped with 2lb rise.

15:00 Sandown – Bridestones (Farringdon)

BRIDESTONES was 33-1 when beaten about 10l in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot (1m, good to firm) and although she could conceivably have finished first in her far-side group had she not been badly hampered just inside the final 2f, Magical Sunset (first on that side) gave her 9lbs.

16:50 Sandown – Novus (Tipman)

Both of NOVUS‘ wins came on soft going, latest at Goodwood (7f) in May. Ran respectably back on faster surface in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot (1m, good to firm) where she finished sixth of 29. Back down in trip/grade.
