It was a really good run at Salisbury in a race that will show up plenty of winners. The Jubilee Stakes winner at Royal Ascot Khaddem finished just in front of DILIGENT HARRY that day but this 5 furlong race should suit him. He is fast as he showed when leading for much of the way at Salisbury and this track is made for him. He is a decent price and Clive Cox has his team in good form.
This is very lightly-raced son of the mighty Sea The Stars. He showed how good he is when winning on quick round at Ripon and won very easily in that Novice Stakes race. There is much more improvement to come from ROGUE SEA.
Hollie Doyle has picked up the ride on SCEPTIC and the weight-for-age allowance for this three-year-old against the older horses can make all the difference. This son of No Nay Never has run some good races, notably at York in a very competitive handicap. The easy finish at York didn’t play to his strengths whereas the stiff uphill climb at Sandown is perfect for him.
John and Thady Gosden are having a really good season and their MIMIKYU can add to that by winning the Lancashire Oaks. She was narrowly beaten in a group 3 at York recently, stays really well and this looks tailor-made for her to get the better of Sea Silk Road.
Hugo Palmer sent STENTON GLIDER to Germany for the 1,000 Guineas and she very nearly won it. It was a bold move and the form has stood up well as Dream Of Love who finished behind her, ran well in the Sandringham at the Royal Ascot meeting. Karsavina could be better than we have seen so far so keep an eye out for any market move for her.
Trainer Eve Johnson Houghton is really getting people to sit up and take notice with how well she has placed some of her horses. It has been a fantastic season for her and it’s interesting that she has targeted SHEER ROCKS for this race. He is already a winner of a big prize at the Epsom Derby meeting and boasts five wins from 12 runs strike rate. He has to be respected and can win again.
Just the four runners but it’s no less a contest for that. I am hoping that West Wind Blows will set a decent gallop because if this turns into a sprint, it will only suit Paddington. I am pretty sure William Buick will be wise to that and will not want this to turn into a sprint for home up the hill.
EMILY UPJOHN showed her class when winning the Coronation Stakes at Epsom and handles all types of ground. She is a a big filly who will love the rain-softened ground. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a farcical tactical contest.
