Lexington Belle made a promising start at Lingfield two weeks ago and is open to improvement over this longer trip, while Charlie Jonston’s Alpen Power has a striking pedigree and needs a close look in the market on his debut. However, the vote goes to CHARGED UP, who ran another good race when a keeping-on second at Carlisle last month and sets a fair standard on his step up to 7f.
Top of the list is LINCOLN ROCKSTAR, who returned from an absence with a bold bid from a tough draw at Beverley on her stable debut last week. She’s on the same mark on this drop back in trip and may well be able to add to her win at Redcar in the autumn. Star Start got off the mark with a strong-finshing win at Carlisle last month and could be a big danger if he gets a good tow into this race. Another to keep an eye on is Heart Of Sofia, who looks a possible improver on her step up to 1m.
Yorkindness still looks feasibly treated on her emphatic win at Pontefract last month but she needs to bounce back after a disappointing run at Lingfield last time. Baez has a solid record for her new yard and should go well back up in trip but the most striking contender is ROBERTJOHNSON (nap), who has won three of his last four starts and is open to more progress on his step back up to 2m.
This should revolve around Cinque Verde and ECCLESIASTICAL who both look well treated under penalties for their emphatic wins last week. The former came good with a dominant display at Wolverhampton but slight preference is for Ecclesiastical, who made it 2-3 for Tristan Davidson when surging clear at Chester on Friday. The other one on the shortlist is Mereside Angel, who scored in good style on his penultimate run and the soft ground may have blunted his powers at Thirsk last time.
Several have possibilities but the vote goes to SPARKLE IN HIS EYE, who won this race last year and returned to form with a close second back over C&D ten days ago. Hat-trick seeker Ahamoment is feared most, although Monhammer wasn’t far behind the selection here last time and could make a serious impact if he gets a good pace and some luck. Others who could be dangerous are Rory and One Of Your Own.
Preference is for the lightly raced 4yo FINBAR’S LAD, who made it 2-5 with his convincing win on the step up to 1m at Haydock 18 days ago and is open to more improvement. The big danger is Star Shield, who has won two of his last three starts and still looks on a workable mark. Most of the others have questions to answer but Yeeeaah didn’t get much luck at Newcastle last time and could be interesting if he gets the breaks on this switch back to turf.
