Matt Chapman’s Horse Racing tips

13:50 The Curragh – His Majesty
14:05 Cartmel – Captain Tom Cat
14:25 The Curragh – Commanche Falls
14:40 Cartmel – Inferno Sacree
15:00 The Curragh – Came From The Dark (each way)
15:12 Uttoxeter – Cap Du Nord (each way)
15:40 The Curragh – White Birch (each way)

13:50 The Curragh – His Majesty

ITV Racing go racing in Ireland Sunday starting with this Group 1 Railway Stakes for youngsters over 6f. HIS MAJESTY looked to be crying out for 6f when a fair fourth at Royal Ascot in the Windsor Castle when keeping on well in a small group and goes back to that trip here. This is the distance he was a fine third in the Marble Hill and he should take all the beating.

14:05 Cartmel – Captain Tom Cat

ITV also go jumping Sunday at Cartmel starting with this handicap chase over 2m5f. Competitive stuff. Not many I fancy in this. CAPTAIN TOM CAT is well handicapped on his best form and is back chasing after a spin in a hurdle. He didn’t do much before that at Uttoxeter but is down 6lb and might have more to offer for the very shrewd Richard Newland. Come on the Captain!

14:25 The Curragh – Commanche Falls

A listed contest here over 6f. COMMANCHE FALLS should be too good for this lot for Michael Dods and Connor Beasley. My hope was last seen at York when third behind Azure Blue in a Group 2 and with Highfield Princess in second. I can’t really see how he gets beat as he’s very consistent and the Irish sprinters are poor other than Little Big Bear.

14:40 Cartmel – Inferno Sacree

This is a handicap hurdle over 2m1f. INFERNO SACREE has rattled up the weights but started at a lowly level and might still have a bit more to come for Nigel Hawke and Tom Buckley who takes off a useful 3lb. A racing weight of 10st 6lb is perfect and is likely to go from the front. The tendency to jump left is not ideal on a right-handed track!

15:00 The Curragh – Came From The Dark (each-way)

A Premier Handicap over 5f. CAME FROM THE DARK is a massively well handicapped horse but has been out for form so backing him takes a leap of faith. That said I have to have a few quid on each way. In this big field they should go very quick which will suit his closing style and he wasn’t totally disgraced in the Dash at Epsom last time when keeping on in mid division. Once rated 108 he’s now on 89.

15:12 Uttoxeter – Cap Du Nord (each-way)

ITV show one from Uttoxeter in the Summer Cup Handicap Chase over 3m2f. A lot of these are very iffy and those with decent recent form have often gained that in tiny fields. I’ll risk the old boy CAP DU NORD who is only reasonably handicapped but continues to run well and has solid handicap form. He’s never been to Uttoxeter before but he might have an each-way chance if taking to the place.

15:40 The Curragh – White Birch (each-way)

The big race of the day in the Group 1 Irish Derby over 1m4f. Not really a betting race but I would expect Auguste Rodin to beat White Birch. The Derby 1-3 look very hard to stop here and the form from Epsom is strong with both King of Steel and Waipiro doing well since the Classic. Maybe I’d back WHITE BIRCH each-way as I can’t see him out of the frame and of course anything can happen. Auguste did have an off day in the 2000 Guineas!
