13:57 – Etoile Dalexandre

ETOILE DALEXANDRE was fairly expensive as a yearling and did best of the newcomers when finishing fourth at York a couple of weeks ago. He was beaten only two lengths despite looking in need of the experience (ran green entering the final furlong) and that bodes well for an improved showing here as he tries to get off the mark at the second attempt.

14:32 – Scintillante

SCINTILLANTE showed improved form when filling the runner-up spot on his handicap debut at Newbury earlier this month, doing very well to finish as close as he did after conceding first run to the winner in a steadily-run race. He is likely to progress further after just four starts and a 2 lb rise in the weights might not be enough to prevent him from going one place better for Andrew Balding, who has a 20% strike rate at Chester since the start of the 2018 season.

 

15:07 – Aberama Gold

ABERAMA GOLD confirmed his return to form when gamely defying a penalty at Hamilton last time, showing a good attitude to follow up his Wolverhampton victory nine days earlier. He is clearly thriving at present and the hat-trick cannot be ruled out from what remains a workable mark judged on the pick of his form. After all, he lines up here from a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) mark of 89 having won off 101 back in December 2020.

15:42 – Ararat

ARARAT produced a career-best effort to shed his maiden tag at Newmarket last week, a more positive ride seemingly doing the trick. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 3 lb rise in the weights and he remains one to be interested in now that he’s found the winning groove for David Simcock, who has his team in good nick (70% of horses running to form).

16:17 – Many A Year

MANY A YEAR has a useful pedigree (by No Nay Never and out of a fair mare who has already produced winners) and his price tag as a yearling suggests he looks the part as well. The delayed start to his career is an obvious point of concern, but his stable is well capable of readying a newcomer and he could be worth chancing on his belated debut.

16:52 – Military Two Step

MILITARY TWO STEP ran creditably when fitted with blinkers for the first time at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago, sticking to his task well having taken a keen hold. It was certainly a step back in the right direction and this looks a good opportunity for him to gain a second course-and-distance win if building on that run, lining up from a 3 lb lower mark than when scoring at Chelmsford in November last year.
