Matt Chapman’s Horse Racing tips

12:20 – Newcastle – Raatea
12:40 – Newmarket – Star of Mystery
12:55 – Newcastle – Spycatcher (each way)
13:15 – Newmarket – Al Aasy
13:30 – Newcastle – Blow Your Horn
13:50 – Newmarket – Pogo
14:05 – Newcastle – Law Of The Sea (each way)

12:20 Newcastle – Raatea

ITV Racing Saturday gets under way here with a handicap over 6f. I don’t think any of these are very well handicapped and that makes it easy to side with RAATEA for Group 1 heroine Julie Camacho and Jason Hart. My selection goes well at this track and is in form winning at Haydock last time. He’s up another 3lb here but might still be capable of getting the job done.

12:40 – Newmarket – Star of Mystery

ITV also go to Newmarket Saturday for this Listed fillies’ stakes for juveniles over 6f. Godolphin has not been in the best of form but this is for taking for STAR OF MYSTERY for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The daughter of Kodiac looked really good when scoring at Haydock last time having shown much promise on debut at Doncaster.

12:55 – Newcastle – Spycatcher (each way)

Up in class here for the Group 3 Chipchase over 6f. SPYCATCHER has a great eachway chance here for Clifford Lee and Karl Burke. The five-year-old ran a terrific fourth at Ascot in the Victoria Cup when last seen and the drop to 6f is no issue. He has form at Newcastle and a rating which puts him bang in the mix. Would just like a strong gallop to run at.

13:15 Newmarket – Al Aasy

Another Listed race here but this time over 1m4f. I’ll take a chance on the returning AL AASY who has always promised to be a rocket but had issues a long the way. William Haggas trains with Jim Crowley on top and Al Aasy is on the comeback after just one run last year when scoring at Ascot in a Listed event. He did that well and I think he has more natural ability than New London if on his game.

13:30 – Newcastle – Blow Your Horn

This is the consolation race for the Northumberland Plate so a handicap over an extended 2m. BLOW YOUR HORN finished third at York last year off 80 so could easily still be a well handicapped horse here off 77 despite being on a four-timer for Ian Williams and Richard Kingscote. The recent Pontefract winner stays all day and has a good draw to work from. He finished third in this race in 2021 off a mark of 87. Might be thrown in.

13:50 – Newmarket – Pogo

A Group 3 now in the Criterion over 7f. POGO has been out of form this season but has the chance to dominate this small field under the excellent Kieren Shoemark for Charlie Hills. My hope was outclassed in the Queen Anne last time but of course he took this prize last year and can repeat the dose.

14:05 Newcastle – Law Of The Sea (each way)

This big betting race of the day in the Northumberland Plate Handicap over an extended 2m. LAW OF THE SEA has a great draw and might be able to give Ian Williams a huge Newcastle double. Richard Kingscote rides the lightly raced raider who is lightly raced and only recently stepped up to staying trips. That has seen him finish fourth in the Chester Cup when denied a clear run and fourth in the Ascot Stakes where he raced very wide. Could be well handicapped.
