Horse Racing Tips: An 8/1 pick tops the list at Newmarket today

Ayyab in the 17:25 gets the nod in today's racing in Suffolk.

16:15 – Hard To Resist
16:50 – Swing To The Stars
17:25 – Ayyab
18:00 – Pearl Eye (NAP)
18:35 – Havana Blue
19:10 – Pinafore
19:45 – Peace Man

16:15 – Hard To Resist

Those to have raced are entitled to improve but they don’t set a daunting standard on the face of it and William Haggas, who won this with a newcomer 12 months ago, may be able to provide the answer with HARD TO RESIST. Dazzling Star was pretty green on her AW debut and Royal Elysian could be a better option, having made up plenty of ground to take a late second on her Haydock debut, where Idle Assembly finished further back, though on the less-favoured strip.

16:50 – Swing To The Stars

Several have registered solid recent performances, so it’s not easy to split SWING TO THE STARS, Moonlit Cloud (second choice), Flash Bardot and Ragosina, but the Ian Williams-trained filly has been shaping as if this step up from 1m will be a big help and she’s sister to a 1m2f-1m4f winner.

 

17:25 – Ayyab

With Fleurir having disappointed so badly last time, this may be decided between AYYAB, Full Regalia and Beautiful Summer, who are preferred in that order. The selection is arguably a bit more exposed than the other two, having had two runs (unlike the Gosden filly) and had a go at 1m (unlike the Appleby filly) but she left a favourable impression at Nottingham last time.

18:00 – Pearl Eye (NAP)

Last year’s winner Giovanni Baglione is back but he isn’t one of those who makes appeal judged on recent efforts. PEARL EYE (NAP) tops that list as he’s been making regular progress in handicaps and looked clearly better than the bare result last time. Le Reveur is due to go back up 3lb following last week’s revival and is therefore feared most, ahead of Raqraaq and Tamaluk.

18:35 – Havana Blue

Perhaps In These Shoes will do the pacemaking honours but otherwise this could turn out an inadequate test at the trip which won’t be ideal for HAVANA BLUE. However, he still looks to have potential at this trip after a cosy win on the Rowley Mile and this doesn’t look especially competitive, unless Behind The Scenes has made progress over the winter.

19:10 – Pinafore

There are cases to be made for Star Guest on the drop to 6f, Priscilla’s Wish, better than ever at Yarmouth last time out, and Lulworth Cove after a ready AW win, but PINAFORE looks the one to beat after a very good reappearance which she followed with a cosy Ripon win. Lulworth Cove may be the pick of the opposition.

19:45 – Peace Man

The Gosden-trained 4yo PEACE MAN has had only four races and improved in leaps and bounds to win twice at Windsor, impressing on his handicap debut last time. He appeals most but the unexposed Appleby contender First Sight has to be feared and Like A Tiger (second choice) looked good on the first of his two starts this season.

Both of them were declared for the 1m2f Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot last Saturday but were non-runners. The Parent is another 3yo to note and lightly raced 4yo Queen Of The Skies made a very satisfactory reappearance recently for her new trainer.
