Moondial carries 6lb extra for her recent narrow Salisbury win and, although Alex Jary is able to claim his 3lb allowance here, she’ll do well to confirm placings with BOOM BOOM POW. The selection must prove herself on the all weather (AW), but she’s capable of winning a race in this grade, and the assumption is that Jo Davis has her back on song. Of the remainder, Musterion has claims, while any market support for Fornham St Martin could be worth heeding.
Easy to envisage Weydaad and same course and distance (C&D) winner INTRICATE PILLAR making the most of their respective fair-looking marks if fully wound up on handicap/seasonal debut, and they’re preferred in reverse order. Adela Of Champagne may appreciate the return to 7f, though needs to get more of the basics right throughout. Liberty Mountain has both 7f and Polytrack at her disposal for the first time since her novice win and Vinaka lines up in career-best form.
None of the newcomers look particularly compelling on paper so this may be between Bigger Than Giga and VENTURA EMPRESS, both of whom made their debuts in different races at Lingfield nine days ago. The former shaped as though the longer trip would suit when staying on well into third over 6f, but the latter is just preferred as although she was run out the places over today’s trip, she was still in front entering the last furlong. She should last longer this time.
Inishfallen and Parker’s Piece showed enough on their respective debuts to suggest they could play a part if stepping forward, whilst there are also a few in here who didn’t run up to market expectations first time so could show a good deal more. There are a couple of interesting newcomers up against them such as Primetime who has a likeable pedigree, but preference is for MAGSOOD who is bred to be useful and the stable has a fine record with 2yo newcomers.
French-import Botas is worth keeping an eye on while Shigar shaped as though the return to this trip would suit last time. However, the vote goes to LISBOA who steps up a furlong for his handicap/AW debut and is bred to be better than he has shown so far.
The 2021 London Mile Final winner Tahitian Prince has dropped 6lb lower than for that success and there were encouraging signs last time, so he has to be considered. Same course and distance (C&D) winner Garrick Painter and handicap newcomer Oliver Show are others to consider while Sandy Paradise comes into this in winning form. However, the vote goes to MOLLY VALENTINE (NAP) who ran well when third over C&D three weeks ago (fifth has won since) and races off the same mark.
Plenty have possibilities but it might be worth siding with CHIPS AND RICE, who returned to action with a Polytrack win in April and ran better than the bare facts when third at Ascot last time. She still has potential and looks interesting back on AW for a yard that has won this four times since 2014. Hat-trick seeker Silastar is feared most, although Meisterzinger is respected after his 4l win over C&D last time. Waterloo Sunset and Down To The Kid also enter the reckoning, while another to keep an eye on is Godolphin’s handicap newcomer Wild Hurricane.
Not bred for 1m3f-1m4f, but more than once having shaped as if such trips are not just within compass but shy of optimum, LIVALOT is at least worth this one chance to prove herself at 2m in a race light on alternatives. La Belle Vie will likely be doing her best work late on and is next preferred factoring in her recent consistency.
