INSOLENTE belatedly opened her account in a seller over this course and distance two starts back and she ran just as well in defeat in a similar event upped in trip at Thirsk last time. She lost two places close home on that occasion, so will appreciate the return to the minimum trip, and she remains of interest now back in handicap company from a career-low mark. Mrs Trump shaped much better than the bare result at Thirsk last time so also needs considering.
SHADAN JOY showed a fair level of ability when a neck second to a Godolphin newcomer on debut in a maiden at Lingfield four weeks ago, soon in the lead and only headed in the final furlong. Admittedly, that wasn’t a strong race, but she wasn’t knocked about, so is expected to take a step forward, and she has been found a good opening here. Misemerald also made a pleasing start to her career at Carlisle last week and is the obvious danger.
EY UP ITS THE BOSS rattled off a quick-fire hat-trick around this time last year and he arrives in top form, bumping into one at Thirsk two starts back and running to a similar level when third at Doncaster nine days ago. That was a fair race for the grade which produced an exciting finish, and Ey Up Its The Boss wasn’t beaten far in a first-time visor, so he is taken to launch another bold bid from the same mark. The thriving Gone is the obvious threat, with Satin Snake best of the others.
KIARAAD has a speedy pedigree and may have made a winning debut at Lingfield earlier this month had he been more clued up, running green in the early stages and jumping the path three furlongs out. He kept on well from there to finish never nearer than at the finish, and he seems sure to progress for that initial experience. Therefore, he’s preferred to the form pick Hondo, who may find the slight drop in trip against him.
ISLE OF WOLVES hasn’t got the most compelling strike rate, his last win coming nearly three years ago, but his consistency this year is hard to argue with, and he wasn’t seen to best effect in first-time blinkers over a similar trip at Wolverhampton three weeks ago. He would have benefited from a stronger gallop that day, but made good headway out wide in the straight, and he faces an easier task now returned to turf. Valley of Flowers, who scored at Ripon on Thursday, and Odd Venture, who caught the eye at Catterick, head the dangers.
WESTERNESSE was caught further back than ideal following a rare tardy start at York 11 days ago but confirmed himself still in top form when staying on to take third close home. Still unexposed at this sort of trip, he could be the answer here from a handy draw. The thriving Bashful may emerge as the chief threat in his hat-trick bid, with Freak Out, who an eyecatcher here last time, another to consider.
This doesn’t look a very strong race and it may be worth chancing BRABUSACH to open his account if turned out quickly. He has found just one too good on his last two starts, bumping into a progressive sort who has won again since at Nottingham and running to a similar level at Chepstow on Monday. A similar display may be enough in this. Red Fort rates a big threat, with Cantalupo Bella and handicap debutant Portoro others worth monitoring.
LINCOLN ROCKSTAR signed off her two-year-old campaign for the Johnstons on a low-key note but she had improved when landing a Redcar nursery in September and is interesting returned to turf and upped in trip on debut for new yard. If judged on what they showed on their penultimate starts, Future Times and Ski Jump are major players, while Stelios is not without each-way appeal and Greek Siren isn’t written off either in an open finish to the card.
