If ridden with a bit more patience than last time Trojan Truth would have to be respected, with the form of his previous win having worked out well. However, the vote goes to bottomweight MREMBO who was having her first attempt over this far when a close fourth in a big field at Windsor last time and has been dropped another 1lb since. Mawkeb, Lucky’s Dream, Rolypolymoly and Charlie Arthur are others worth a second look in an open race.
Despite having to carry a penalty against some unexposed rivals, Crooked Crown is still very much respected as she did it well when winning at Chepstow and this race did go to a previous winner in 2017. However, slight preference is for DELICACY whose odds of 25-1 suggested not a lot was expected from her on her Kempton debut, so she probably did well to be beaten only just over 2l into fifth of ten. She can be expected to improve here. Queen Of Atlantis and Rogue Rosie look the pick of the newcomers and the market should be revealing as regards their prospects.
The market should indicate what is expected from the two newcomers, with Ralph Beckett’s Balletic looking especially interesting. However, PINK SATIN looked a nice prospect when winning on her Windsor debut and the way she performed there and her pedigree suggest she should relish the extra furlong. Lady Of Leisure showed promise when runner-up on her Haydock debut and should go well again.
If the ground remains on the quick side Noble Masquerade would have to be high on the list as he looks well suited by those conditions. Millions Memories would be a player if repeating his latest Salisbury success, but that’s not certain so SPLENDENT is preferred. He didn’t improve for the step up to 1m6f at Nottingham last time, but had run really well when third over this trip at York the time before and the form of that race could hardly be working out better.
The return to 7f on a straight track could help Aurora Dawn in her bid to bounce back from her odds-on defeat last time, but this can go to DREAM OF MISCHIEF (nap) who looked so unlucky not to win at Goodwood 11 days ago. He is just 1lb higher and can gain compensation. Saturnalia is another who didn’t enjoy a clear passage last time so could go well, with Ajjaj looking best of the others.
Bastogne is respected if building on his promising reappearance/stable debut, as is Secret Strength now that he has dropped 2lb below his last winning mark. The consistent Wadi Bani looks frame material at the very least, but STARLIGHT NATION looks the one to beat. He was having only his second start on turf when winning at Leicester last time and can defy a 3lb higher mark.
Hurt You Never has more on her plate off a 7lb higher mark in her bid for the four-timer, but as a filly in hot form she cannot be ignored. The in-form Jax Edge is another who can’t be dismissed off a 6lb higher mark than for her latest win, while Sarah’s Verse, The Princes Poet and Katar are others worth a second look. However, a chance is taken with RICH RHYTHM, especially if the ground remains on the fast side of good. He hasn’t had those conditions since winning a Windsor novice last summer and has caught the eye with his finishing effort the last twice.
