17:50 – BIG BARD
BIG BARD arrives in cracking form having won his last two starts over six furlongs at Windsor and Bath. He didn’t have as much in hand as his previous win turned out under a penalty last time, taking a while to get organised on faster ground, but he still managed to get his head in front at the line, and is able to race from 3 lb lower now back on the all-weather. Red Alert is also chasing a hat-trick and also commands respect under a double penalty provided this doesn’t come too soon.
18:25 – EL BODON
Several of the newcomers are appealing on paper but EL BODON was a promising second on debut at Yarmouth and can put that experience to good use here. The winner of that race wasn’t beaten far in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday, which augurs well, and he can put his experience to good use. Of the newcomers, Quantum Force could be the pick, though Tactical Control, Jakima and Miggy Magic (in that order of preference) are other likely-looking types.
19:00 – BIG TIME MAYBE
BIG TIME MAYBE is a three-time winner over this course and distance and he arrives in good heart following a couple of wins last month. He has held his form well in defeat since, running another cracker when runner-up to Red Alert who has won again since at Brighton last week. He race from the same mark now in a race which probably hasn’t as much depth and he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Perfect Symphony finished runner-up to the selection over course and distance last time but is now much better off at the weights, so he has to be a big threat.

19:30 – NO NEWS
NO NEWS remains a maiden but he ran at least as well as ever when runner-up at Kempton last time, proving the only one to threaten the extremely well-backed, progressive winner. That was arguably a deeper race than the one he contests, so he will remain of interest from a 3 lb higher mark. Double Down, who ran with credit over course and distance 12 days ago, is feared most, while Kimnkate is another one to consider.
20:00 – PROTEST RALLY
PROTEST RALLY improved further when opening his account on handicap over six furlongs at Southwell last month, and he ran well considering he was hampered by an errant rival at the start and still looked green under pressure at Nottingham last time. He was also caught wide which wasn’t ideal and he remains a horse who should have more to offer, so is well worth siding with again back on all-weather and moving back up to seven furlongs. Icy Dip is another who may benefit from a return to an artificial surface and appeals as still being on a good mark.
20:30 – ROYAL ATHENA
ROYAL ATHENA produced a big career best when opening her account over course and distance 10 days ago, helped by getting a clear run through on the inside but also proving well suited by a step up to a mile and a half. She was always holding on form the unexposed, odds-on favourite who has won since, and she will be hard to beat turned out under a penalty if going the right way from that success. Fellow last-time-out scorer Philos is the obvious threat, with Alex The Great a potential improver tackling a more suitable trip.
21:00 – STREETSTORM
STREETSTORM would probably have won with a clear passage here 12 days ago, her jockey having to stop riding for a stride or two early in the straight as she manoeuvred for a run, which ultimately made the difference in a finish of fine margins. She moves up to a mile and a quarter now, a trip she is bred to be suited by, and she is strongly fancied to gain compensation. Brilliant Blue is well weighted these days so needs considering, along with Naasma who is eased in class.
