Thursday, June 22 – Norfolk Stakes (2.30pm)
Elite Status (Timeform rating 109p) – Five-furlong colt
The latest edition of the National Stakes at Sandown looked like a red-hot renewal as nine of the ten-strong field were last-time-out winners, but ELITE STATUS proved in a league of his own as he stormed clear in the final furlong to register a devastating five-length success.
The visual impression was backed up by a fast time and Elite Status earned a Timeform rating of 109p, which is the joint-highest achieved by a juvenile so far this season (along with Ripon winner Asadna).
Elite Status has already run to a level that is higher than most winners of the Norfolk Stakes achieve at Royal Ascot, so he should take plenty of beating.
Friday, June 23 – Albany Stakes (2.30pm)
Porta Fortuna (Timeform rating 101P) – Six-furlong filly
PORTA FORTUNA has followed an identical path to the Albany Stakes as last year’s winner Meditate who followed up victory in a five-furlong maiden at the Curragh with another success in the listed Fillies Sprint Stakes at Naas over six furlongs.
Porta Fortuna hasn’t been winning by wide margins, scoring by a neck on each occasion, but she impressed with the striking turn of foot that she found at Naas last time and scored in a good time from the promising Navassa Island (100p) who pulled four and a half lengths clear of the third.
The first two from that Naas contest set the standard on form and are big players in the Albany, though Jabaara, who has the Timeform large P to denote she is capable of much better form, is also a highly promising filly, as is Doncaster debut winner Carla’s Way following a notable effort on the clock.
